Hi there. New forum member here, I have been getting a TON of info from the site so I figured I would join! I recently bought an Oustalet's after my panther passed on after 6 fun years together which I figure is pretty good considering the climate in Iowa is either too cold or too hot for outdoor keeping. I kept a Yemen before that for around the same amount of time. I kept the veiled outside when possible in Iowa, but the panther always seemed more stressed than anything so he didn’t go out as much. Anyway I digress…
So when the panther passed I was thinking I wanted another chameleon but something I hadn’t had before and something large as that seems to make more of an impact on visitors. Oustalet’s despite not being colorful seem to be pretty great guys so I picked up a field collected male from Florida. I would have gladly paid 5x more for CB, he was only $30, but I didn’t see any available until the weekend after I bought him, talk about infuriating! Anyway I don’t feel too bad about being from FL, they are invasive there and most keepers in FL keep them outside anyway… but I would have still liked to get CB… The dealer had been keeping him in reptibreeze cage, no idea how long, but he looks good. I, of course, have no problem paying for a vet if needed.
My setup is 24x24x48 with fake vines and potted plants, bare bottom with a tray that drains into a 5g bucket hidden in the stand. I just bought the raindome system, I manually misted before. Picked up a new dual t5ho fixture with 1 reptisun 10.0 and a plant bulb, and use a 75w spot for heat. The vine under the 10.0 is 16 inches. I have a long established dubia colony, but supplement with wc bugs along with butterworms, hornworms, superworms, crickets, waxworms, silkworms.
I got him last Wednesday and he hasn’t had the easiest time acclimating. He finally has calmed down and isn’t climbing the screen, but has not eaten yet. I am not worried quite yet, but it’s unsettling considering I have only had babies and they settled in quickly. He is about 12” total, anyone have an idea on age? I was guessing a year as I have read they are slow growers.
