Does anyone know if a fully grown Senegal Chameleon with accept The Green Banana Cockroach (Panchlora Nivea). My only concern is that perhaps they may be too big for him
I’ve had a few picky wild caught Senegal Chameleons and I found that offering them crunchy green coloured insects got them to eat in captivity. Chameleons do chew their food before they swallow it so they can eat something a little larger than you might expect. I’m not sure the size of an adult Nivea so unless they are super huge causing a choking risk I’d use them.
Chameleons do have taste buds but their olfactory and Jacobson’s organs are rudimentary so ‘taste’ probably isn’t a large factor in what they like or do not like to eat.
As stated before Green Banana Roaches have a very soft shell and a low profile making them easy to swallow and at 1" for fully grown females, they are easily swallowed by small chameleons. Furthermore their green coloration and the fact that they fly entice even the most picky eater.
