Panther Chameleon Feeding

Well, I've had my Ambanja Panther Chameleon for 1 year now and he's been doing great!

I've kept to a regular routine and I figured that since he seemed fine, I was doing it right.

Well recently I've begun to doubt myself. I of course provide my Chameleon with all of the proper husbandry and care, but I like to keep things simple.

I purchased my Chameleon as an adult (around 6 inches without tail, 12-13 inches with tail) a year ago. Since then he hasn't grown, but that's as big as they get anyways, right?

I feed him once every two days in the morning with about 7 large crickets, powdered with calcium and occasional multivitamins and gutloaded with some cricket feed and a sliced grapefruit, orange or some grated carrots.

I also on occasion feed mealworms, but have read they aren't overly healthy. I mist his cage once a day for a few seconds, but provide a water drip system on the weekends (he loves it).

1. My question is whether or not you consider him to have a healthy diet and if feeding him once every two days is fine (adult, remember).

2. I have two UVB flourescent bulbs over his cage which haven't been switched out for the year I've had him but am now also getting worried that I should have switched them out earlier. Should I, or are they fine as long as they work?

Thanks so much!

Its about time to switch the bulbs out. I would at the 1 year mark. I would feed him at least 6-7 days a week. I'm not sure how healthy/unhealthy doing it every 2 days is but maybe someone with more experience can tell you that.

I have heard feeding em once every other day is ok actually from an exotic pets vet. I feed mine bout 9-12 large crickets, seems to be good size, and has the nice fat pack on the top of his head:p (His vet pointed this out lol)

The breeder I brought mine from told me that as they become adults at about the 3 years mark. He puts them on a guessing meal system.

I have linked to his site here as I am sure he won't mind.

Look up the Captive Care tab then go to the FEEDING link.

He basically seems to feed for a few days then break for a couple.

I guess this is more like the wild where food isn't as available as it is to us.
