My 11 month panther tends to scratch at the glass sliding door on his vivarium when he wants to come out and, whenever I can, I let him out.
Today I opened the door, he immediately tried to squeeze his head through as I opened it and he climbed onto my hand. I hold him at chest level most of the time as he really doesn't care about my face being near him at all so I thought everything was fine and he was just excited to get out as usual.
But, then he just jumped. And I mean jumped! He'd never done it before, and I'd never heard of a chameleon jumping before so it totally caught me off guard. I didn't pick him up straight away as I didn't want to possibly cause more harm than there already might have been. His colours went dark and he just sat there on the floor for a minute.
Thankfully though, he went back to his perky little self climbing up my pants leg after a little while. I held him for a bit just to feel over his legs and take a close look at him.
The only injury he seems to have is a hurt ego and a small nail/toe injury. It looks like his nail got pushed in and the scales around it are a little messed up, and it's a little swollen. I'm going to get him a vets appointment and see what they can do.
Do you think they will need to pull out the nail? And will that affect his climbing, he's already a little clumsy when he's rushing around his vivarium lmao
