Panther one eye closed

Hey Everyone,

I have a Panther Chameleon that I have noticed recently he has been closing one eye slightly. However, when I go to see him or pick him up he opens both and is moving around normally. He is still eating, however it seems like a little less then normal (4-5 Superworms a week). He primarily eats superworms because he won't eat anything else, believe me I have tried (Even starving him for a week and a half).

I was recently doing some research and it seems like Vitamin A deficiency, however I was given Reptocal with Calcium + D3 and advised to give it to him twice a week. I have only been giving it to him once a week. However, I have been reading about Vitamin A overdose and my concerns is I have been giving him to much Vitamin A since reptocal has Retinol. (It says Vitamin A complex).

He is 2 years old blue bar ambilobe.

Besides his one eye being slightly closed, he seems normal and very active. I also looked at his eyes closely and the eye he has been keeping closed at times seems to have a little bit of yellow dischare near the front of the eye. Therefore, do you think it could be a simple eye infection?

I'm just a worried Chameleon owner. Any thoughts from experienced handlers would be greatly appreciated.

Your uv strip needs to go across the top of the enclosure. I would take him into the vet ASAP. Have them draw a culture from the eye to see what type of infection, if any, is present.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I will bring him into the vet as I suspect this is the issue. I didn't notice this the first day or so but can just see a little discharge from the corner of his eye. His other eye is perfectly fine and he seems healthy besides this.

Update... I got some polysporin antibiotic eye drops which seemed to clear up his eye issues n two days. He is back to normal and his eye seems fine now. Thanks for the help

I want to know how you were able to get his eye open to treat the eye. I posted a thread a little while back and no one responded.

Whats wrong with the eye? Was this medicine prescribed by a vet?

If this was prescribed by a vet i cant believe he/she did not show you how to administer it before prescribing it for you to take home. If this is the case maybe go back to the vet and have them show you?
