Paranormal Activity Movie

The opening credits have a thank you from Paramount Studios to the families of the main characters. This is done intentionally to set up the story to be believable as the film is presented as a home-made documentary. The final credits tell more about police findings, etc. Still a ploy to enhance the belief factor.

The acting is so poor I cannot believe kids take the message of this stupid story seriously. The house they film it in was so hard to look at with it's mis-matched eclectic architecture and furnishings that it looks more like they borrowed someone's house that may have been in foreclosure and the director's nephew or someone with no taste tried his best to spruce it up to for the big debut.

Without spoiling the entire movie for anyone else willing to spend 23.00 dollars on the tickets, 11.50 on two hot dogs and one small Coke...we'd just like to say, staying home and doing laundry would have been more meaningful. Oh, yes and I almost failed to mention two huge cracks in the story...there may have been more, I lost interest so I stopped counting.

On the bright side, I'm thrilled for the director and those who put their hearts into making this low-budget stinker. Now they'll have money to do something more meaningful.

I was very interested in this movie. From all they hype it sounded soo good....But after talking to a few who have gone to see it and reading "real" horror buff reviews, I think I'll wait for it to come on PPV. It's not worth the 19-24 bucks to own the DVD.

Should we assume this means you didn't like the movie? BTW I do have laundry if you are available.:rolleyes:

umm yah, ok... I LOVED this movie. I went with some friends. One of my friends (who is 31) kept her yes covered through all the scary parts! hysterical!! hahaha. By the end of the movie her face was in her lap! ahaha. The ticket sales guy told us before we even got in that he watched it and had not slept since he saw it. I would not go that far. I thought it was really good, not "so scary you'll be afraid of your OWN home" though, but I loved it.... I am planning on seeing 1-2 moretimes in the theater.....

I plan on going tonight with my GF, idk if its good or not i jsut like scary movies lol

LOl, they always Hype them up, nearly always a letdown.
I saw 'What just happened' last night, rather dissapointing to say the least.
Seems like hollywoods idea well has dried up, so they now rely on 'Names' alone.
No real plot, no action, boring dialog. I guess they thought names like robert de-niro, bruce willis, stanely tucky alone would 'make' the movie.

On a better note, 'land of the lost' with wil ferrel was a fun watch atleast. :)

Horror movies never really rang my bells anmyway, most are more amusing, or just plain boring/violent. I steer more toward deliberate comedy/horror if I go there at all.
The blair witch was an intresting one, first 'homemade' type horror I saw, thought it worked well but needed a better ending. Like most movies, the sequel sucked.

Funny how the movies you really get a big kick out of, are always 'one offs', though you'd love to see a sequel. The crappier the movie, the more they make, 'Rocky 46 , wheelchair champion' anyone? :D

I made this comment to my gf, with the crappy movies that are coming out nowadays along with all these movies based on books. Seems like hollywood doesnt have any ideas left of their own!

Yes Shan, save your dough. I will say however that one of the very young girls at work came to me so freaked out by this film that she wanted me to reassure her that it was just a story.

Sometimes it takes years of experience to tell the difference between acting and the real thing, and for those who are younger, this film could be really fun. Not putting down youth in the least, I actually used to be young myself...lol...and I do adore young people, but I do not expect young people to have my same take on acting, or even the stage this stinker is set upon. To someone young, the house itself may appear marvelous.

Montana's a bit of a drive from Cali, but I'll do it if you really need it done! :D Yes, Phil and I are one of those totally weird couples who enjoy doing domestic stuff together. Cleaning is a Zen thing around these parts. Must be part of the aging process...lol!

Good for you! The director did his job to sufficiently entertain you and really, isn't that what a movie is supposed to do?! I'm glad you had fun and I truly wouldn't want to take a moment of your joy away with my criticism of this film!

I'm beginning to think anyone young will totally enjoy this film. Hope you had fun and please do let us all know what you personally thought.

According to Phil, 'What Just Happened' was another writer's self-aggrandizing attempt to entertain his colleagues in Hollywood. Boring! As for deliberate horror, I liked 'Shaun Of The Dead' and Phil hated it. I guess Yanks just love the language. (Phil's from Liverpool I'm from California)

When I studied writing, I was told there were seven stories to be told. They can be told front to back, middle to end, etc. They contained the same character types and sub-types. When you break it down, it's true. An old old time film director friend said, "Everything you see is really just a Western dressed to be something else."

I take it a step further...I see it as Shakespeare dressed up to be something else...if it's good that is.lol

For those of you who enjoy this film, that's what entertainment is all about. Just because the hotdogs where the highlight for us, doesn't mean a thing when it comes to your experience. Thanks for posting!

boring movie.. the ending just made me laugh.. i did however, get pretty weirded out when she stood up and did absolutely nothing for 4 hours straight. that helped the movie a lot by getting the aduience weirded out. it was funny as hell when she was pulled out of her bed and dragged outside in the hallway!

Considering that this movie only cost $15,000.00 to make, doesnt surprise me that it was a let down. With how much it made, the execs are thinking it was a hit and will probably try making more like this.......
