whats so special about petri dishes used for hatching silkworms and hornworms?

why not use something even cheaper?
 
they are just liked because they are a good size...and the poop doesnt stick to them...also you can glue eggs to it...so it works with the whole life cycle till they are too big for the small dish.

also when they are just born you can handle them...so you have to keep them in the same container...thats also the container the egggs come in...
 
They are good sized, don't take up to much space, not to tall, keep your food moist for longer, and better for bacterial purposes.
