I went to petsmart today, seen they had chameleons... VERY poorly taken care of, There heat Was at 46 DEGREES!!! CELCIUS!!!

They were a pale brown, such as the colour of.. hmm.. A light tan on a white person, Very light coloured, lookin really pale.

What the F is this caused from? there humidity was about 60, and alls they had is a stick, a tunnel sorta log thing, lettuce, and a water bowl.

P.s My geuss was something to do with vitamins.

there is a way to report the store, and have them forced to take better care, but i forget how.

My momma says i should work there, and get the animals to better health.

The one looked dead, really dark black coloured, and laying on his stick, with his arms just laying down

Pet Stores...Ugh...

I have seen so many sad little veiled chameleons in pet stores. Doesn't matter what chain. The problem is, they don't really care about proper husbandry, only about the quick sale. Most keep them in glass terrariums and the poor little guys just scratch at the sides... My local Petco has the same setup...although lower temperatures, thank God. A hide log made for a gecko, and a fake stick. No foliage, incorrect lighting, no drippers- just water bowls and some sad little faces waiting for someone to take them home.

Please do find out how, i will definately report it.

Pissed me off how sick it is in there, 46 degrees is NUTS.

no misting, nothing, just a bowl of water, one of the chams, was really shaky and was trying to shoot his tongue, but it just went out so slow, and gummy looking that he couldnt do it, my geuss for her was that she was dehydrated and couldnt do anything but shake in her own, hot little cruel death.:(

We have a decent pet store here where i got my cham, they took really good care, small 10 gallon aquarium (My cham was 3 months...) With proper lights, temp, misted 3 times a day, with a bowl of water to keep up humidity, and a huge vine, and log, and bio vine, and a fake plant, very nicely done,

Hate petsmart though >.<

petco..

I actually got my Veilled from petco, and they actually were taking pretty good care of him he was in a glass tank but he had plenty to climb on, mealworms to eat, a drip system setup, and he was active and healthy..
Just depends on the people working there..

I have a pet store in my town that has been in business for a long time, I think the secret to there success is a really wide variety of pets. But everytime i go in there the are very rude, and not much help but they sell everything, so t hard not to go there. Every other pet store that pops up around here never lasts long.. Dont know if its the same in your area, But owning a pet store seems really risky..

it does 100% i was off 1 week for Spring break, and i came back from that we had lost our baby jackson. people were not turning in the UVB lamps, was not scrubbing the bowls from algae, and some bowls didnt even have the water changed. they threw away my drip system i made for the veiled chams, and then they didnt even water them one day when i came into work. i immediately asked who opened fish, and a manager said she did, and i called her out on it. People seem to have lost a sense of accountability, but when you are the one in charge to open reptiles/fish there is no one else but you to blame. i got wrote up, but it was worth it. i dont care who it is. i will call them out on costing animals lives. we have lost 8 reptiles due to peoples negligence. 7 water babies, and the baby jackson. The owner has 2 stores, and he doesn't even order in reptiles for the other one anymore, because they all just die. its sad im the only person there that actually does their job. hate to see what happens in a year when i graduate from college

On the subject i was in my local petsmart and they had a jackson cham and a senegal cham in the same encloser. It was about 80 degrees in the cage with 20% Humidity!!! both of their skin was peeling it was so dry. the only water they had in the cage was a little bowl. I felt sorry for them!!

Yea, I told ya last time they had a young jacksons and within 3 days, it was gone, im thinking dead..well I was there 4 days ago and they had an adult jacksons..he was trying to claw his way out of the glass. I felt HORRIBLE. If I had a spare 129 I woulda bought him, but then I know they would have replaced him with another.:(

This is actually my husbands and I's 10-20 year goal after we build our home. He has made a career out of the Army (10 years in woohoo!) and when we retire, we will own a proper petstore, where the setup is sold with the pet.

i got my veiled from a pretty good pet store in Chicago. The only problem was that the cage was not screen. but there was a uvb sight, basking lamp, temperature about 75 degrees Fahrenheit, a dripper, foliage, small crickets,(since the chams were babies), and a bowl of water with a bubble stone. But the chams at pet's mart are crushed into a tiny cage and the ones that are taken home are survivors in my eyes. :(

that sounds very noble hope you can meet your goal.
