Picasso Healing Well, Should I Still Go to Vet?

Well, Picasso is doing so well I'm wondering if I should even put him through the stress of packing him up and going to the vet next week. It's about an hour ride in the car one way. All the sores look like they're healing up really well (and fast), the swelling is gone in his feet and even the bumps on his eyes are looking much smaller. The two biggest sores on his nose are 100% better then they were 5 days ago and look to be scabbing over well.

Im convinced most of the problems were being caused by that toxic rhododendron plant that was in his cage when I brought him home. I've been giving him an oral syringe of pedialite twice a day and what a world of difference just that did for him as well as triple antibiotic ointment on his nose sores to ward off any infection.

He's eating and drinking really well and up and active and alert all day, no sign of being sick or lethargic.

I know it's always advisable to go to the vet when an animal (or person) is in distress but if they start to get better on their own is it even worth the time, money and stress on the animal? What are everyones thoughts?

If you dont know what it is, I would definitely still go in.

Also, he's a bit overweight, so when he is healthier, I would cut back on his food intake a bit until his head pads aren't quite so bulbous.

since you know his care was sub par i would take him.
i only have one cham that does not enjoy a ride in the focus
even when we end up at the vet.
i have a vine mounted from the console for them to ride on

Given all the problems he has had, I would err on the side of caution and take him in. It is good to establish a baseline for the vet too. Good work on his recovery!

Yeah...

...I agree, Ill just bring him in next week when he has his appointment, was just wondering what you all would do. He blows my mind everyday with how quickly he recovered with real minimal changes to his care. Swapped out a toxic rhododendron for an umbrella plant, installed a 10.0 uvb and a little pedialite twice a day and poof! He's like a whole new guy! He's definitely a trooper.

That's funny you mentioned he's overweight, I thought so too, it's just so strange to me how the kid was taking care of him. He had the right idea but made some real big big mistakes. This is a testament to knowing how to properly care for an animal BEFORE you get it! To not ever assume something is right before researching it, like the plant. His set up was great but had assumed that plant was okay and I thing assumed the uvb light fixture came with a uvb buld. Anyway, thanks everyone! Hubbys yelling at me to get off the computer...lol

I'm glad to see that he is improving but he definitely needs to go to the vets and get those bumps on his head cleaned out. A culture and sensitivity test should be done to make sure he is put on the correct antibiotic that will clear up the type of infection in those bumps. It left unattended it will probably spread.
