I have been researching chams mostly ones that are not pygmies, But have seen them many times before and have been reading up a little on them, is it true that they only live 1-3 years, That's not a very long time. From what i read they seem to be easy to take care of if you have had many reptiles before. 3 years would be ok but 1 would suck.

I've had WCs that have lived longer than one year and have produced multiple clutches. Even if they dont live that long youll have their babies to take care of. I think the longest I've ever heard a pygmy living for was 7 yrs.

It's always just the whole thing about factors out of control. One of those is where you buy it from. Obviously wild caught or captive bred plays a factor as does the maintenance of the tank. Since pygmys don't hang around the bottom, an under-tank heater is useless, but they're also prone to overheating, so a heat lamp too close to them is unhealthy. For sure they need more attention than fish, but if you do maintenance of the tank, feed them regularly, and don't let the temperature fluctuate too much, they'll live for at least 3.
