pinhead crickets OK as food for newborn panther chameleon?

Hi all,

i have a panther chameleon that just hatched today (about two hours ago) and i'v ran out of fruitflies.

I have a shipment of pinhead crickets arriving tomorrow morning. Will newborn panther chameleons be able to feed on the smallest of pinhead crickets?

it's summer here, and 9 out of ten of my usual suppliers have stopped selling fruitflies as it's too hot for them to breed or ship them. i have the last supplier who's willing to do so, but the shipment will only arrive three days later.

so i was hoping that the pinhead crickets could be a feasible food source for the newborn panther chameleon. it was the first out of nine eggs, so the rest could be hatching soon, but not yet.

kindly advise if the pinhead crickets (the smallest ones) would suffice? if not, i may have to drive 8 hours away to buy from another city,

You should be fine if you have pinheads. If you have a petco or petsmart close, they usually have fruit flys. You would need to get them and start cultures. Where are you located? Maybe someone on here can help? I know how it goes to not have easy access to food for babies. I live in a very small town, far from everything.

Let me know how your baby, and the rest to hatch are doing.

thanks Laurie,

i will start feeding the newborn panther chameleon tomorrow with pinhead crickets (they are about 0.2cm big)

it was born today around 4pm (and my chameleons go to sleep around 6pm), so i hope it's well and alive tomorrow morning, i'll mist its enclosure with water first so it drinks, and introduce the pinhead crickets.

it's my 2nd batch of eggs hatching. my first batch hatched about 3 months ago, and the baby chameleons have grown fairly big, but i never got to see them eat. they are all well hidden in the leaves and i'm confident they ate well because they left lots of new poo everyday.
