Pinky Mice

I have a adult male veiled chameleon I do not know his age for sure. When I figure out how to post pictures I will. But I was at the pet store and the guy told me to feed him pinkies, along with the crickets. He eats them and likes them but I haven't seen any one else doing it? Any answers?

You can give him a mice like once or twice a year and then long time without food!

Please fill this out so we can check how you take care of him and give you some advice or help:

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Pinkies, nutritionally wise are pretty much fat. Bones are underdeveloped so not much calcium. Pinkies on occasion can be great to add some condition to emaciated animals, or
females after birth/laying, or preconditioning animals prior to brumation, but as a small bonus to a normal variable diet.

Generally not too often and if you do feed a pinky, allow a day or two before feeding again, along with suitable temps for digestion. Not something to be fed very often.
:)

I will look for the thread but people broke it down into numbers and nutritionally it is OK and SAFE to feed off 1 pinky per month. There was the point if you feed pinky's too regularly your cham can develope gout. So be wise about it. Best of Luck

Feed adult rodents

Adult rodents have calcium and arent so fatty. These work wonders for lots of stuff. Insect size rodents. This is a young adult female the ruler is in centimeters. 2.54 centimeters per inch!

When I was younger and had my first Senegal cham, I also had pet mice which were supposed to all be female, but of course one was a male. So I had babies all the time. Anyway, I would catch my mother (who thought crickets were absolutely disgusting) feeding a newborn pinky to my chameleon every once in awhile. I'm not really sure why. But anyway, I don't recall her doing this very often but maybe once every couple months. They didn't seem to harm my chameleon in any way or make her fat or anything. She lived for about 3 years (was WC). I used to get upset because they were like my babies' babies lol and because it was somewhat disturbing, but like a couple people have already said, they're good for chameleons when they're underweight. I offered one to Kami when I first got her because she was very skinny, but she didn't want it. I'm not sure if she would eat one now, but I wouldn't really want to try unless she stopped eating crickets and/or started losing weight. So I would agree that once in awhile is ok, but I wouldn't feed them very often.

I have only offered them once to my chams. Only 2 out of the 8 chams were interested....

the heat for digeston is very important. And only doing it maybe once a or twice a year os a good idea.
