Places To Volunteer?

Hey guys, after all this stuff in the world dies down and the world opens back up, I’d love to volunteer at exotic animal sanctuaries and I’m having trouble finding some. Do y’all have any? I’m in the Houston Tx area.

Why not just volunteer at a non profit zoo or individual owned zoo?

depends on what kind of animal you'd like to work with. theres always the animal shelter for your dogs and cats. if you look around there can be certain sanctuaries and non profits that need help if you want to do reptilians. if you want to do horses, try an equine therapy facility (I do this!), and if you want to do bugs, butterfly houses are a good place to start (been doing this one for over 3 years!) also my reason for hundreds of butterfly pictures on my phone and a mind full of useless knowledge about butterflies I will never see and well, theres a lot of nature conservation efforts if you want to work on the field.

I think its best to choose what kind of animal first to narrow down your search best of luck!!

Thanks for the replies! Even though I’m still young and probably dreaming WAY to big, but in regards to animals I’d like to work with... anything from big cats to Macaws?

In reality I’m happy to work with anything, I can’t seem to find any near me which is really weird.

well then my recommendation is that if you're willing to do some pooper scooper duty, to do equine therapy volunteering. its a place where they work with horses to help people with disabilities cope and help them learn basic day to day movements. not only do you learn to work and learn the animals but you learn to develop people skills and work with people who may see life differently than you. I honestly think its an amazing opportunity to get to develop relationships with the people and horses you volunteer with and learn a lot of things you may need in the future. although they are a one animal species only type of place so if you're looking to work with variety its better to look for a sanctuary or non profit
