Plants That Are Safe

I have not browsed all of the posts on the forum but I have a link to pictures that I have taken of plants that I have ready had or recently purchased and would appreciate any feedback. Thank you in advance!

The only one that I personally would trust would be the middle of the bottom row. Do check out Beman’s link...is a quick and easy resource for safe plants.

I have a bromeliad (not sure the species off the top of my head but the one I have is safe, just research), a croton, a ficus plant and an aluminum plant. They are all safe.

aluminum plant? um not for Veiled's or at least it is not a tried and tested among many keepers to be ok.... With them being plant eaters I would be cautious about what you use.

Yes, I researched it first and found many chameleon keepers see that their charms love them, and it’s non toxic for them to munch on. Just isn’t as widely used.

Great glad your having great luck with it and found a ton of people using it. I still advice New keepers stick to the recommended tried and true plants that have been used with Veileds.

Just gotta say, aluminum plants are known to be safe for many animals. If veileds are able to eat pothos, ficus, and everything else, then the aluminum plant will be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about what has been tested. Just make sure there's no deadly toxins in the plants(nightshades for example).

If we want to be picky, we could say nothing has been tested because no one knows the actual longterm effects from these plants. All of what we know is anecdotal. Which is cool, that's how most things with reptiles are. I just wouldn't dismiss other plants.

I get ya... I am speaking as far as new keepers.... I think sticking to plants that have been used with Veileds for many many years that have been "proven" to be safe is a better way to go rather then going and picking up random plants at home depot. At least with the standard plants if there is a health issue then you know more then likely it is not the plants that are being eaten but something else within the husbandry.

So when someone says something is safe that I have not heard of in my year and a half of being in this forum then I do speak up in a thread because the threads are searchable for others to see the same info. Then people can make the decision that they are more comfortable with. And if other Newbies want to use random plants with their Veileds I hope that they understand that recommending those plants for others just because it is currently working for them is careless. It is one thing to put your chameleon at risk...

Just saying, Pilea (aluminum plant) is on the chameleon safe plant list. Also sold on Josh’s Frogs on the safe for pets page. But I get what you are saying.

Oh? Well, you’re the expert!
Not in the slightest... It is just known among those of us that have been in the hobby what it is that they use. Pretty miss leading for those that are new to the hobby. Bill Strand has spoken about their list as well in his podcasts and classes.
