How do I get a plant ready to put in the cage, like getting rid of the fertilizer?

pull plant from pot squirt root ball with hose till all soil if off the roots get new fresh organic soil in new pot stick plant in new pot soak down new pot til air bubbles stop coming out let dry til soil is just moist and your done just maintain soil to be just moist not sloppy wet
