Chami Chameleon should be 11 to 12 months old. She was purchased Nov 26th and was very young when we bought her. She has been really healthy until about 1 week ago when she began fasting. Usually she eats 6 crickets daily along with a worm or 2. Now she's not eating at all. We haven't seen her drink at all either and her eyes do look like she's getting dehydrated bring they are sinking in some. Over the last week she's been sitting on her branches on her belly, letting her feet dangel (we've never seen her do that before either) she is normally very active- moving up and down her cage all day- but now she is moving much slower. She also rarely hisses and keeps a bright lime green color but over last week is much darker in color and has some golden spots on her belly. Any suggestions for what to do would be helpful! We love Chami but am not sure what to do!! Please help

At that age, females usually develop eggs. they must have a deep enough bin of soil/sand to dig a nest and lay their eggs. Has she been spending a lot of time the last several weeks along the bottom, or ground, of the cage?

Post another picture of her, top/back down, focusing especially on the area just in front of the rear legs. Does it feel like she has eggs in there?

She looks dehydrated and she is very round (eggs?). The dangling legs indicate a possible calcium deficiency. I would recommend a vet visit very soon.

Definitely get her to the vet asap and get an opaque container of washed playsand at least 12" deep by 12" by 8" in her cage asap too.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. We took Chami to an animal hospital today we're she was put down :( She was carrying eggs that drained all the calcium from her. She turned light yellow today and couldn't hold herself up and it was too late. Thanks again for all your help. I am devastated for now. Hopefully we can replace her in due time.

Sad day

I'm sorry for your loss :(

If you get a female in the future please check or the care sheets to prepare yourself for the different needs of a female.

Sorry to hear about your loss. :( I know it's hard to cope with. At least she is no longer suffering.

Sorry she had to be put down. Many people do not realize when they buy females that they can lay eggs without mating. They must have a proper place to lay eggs or the result can lead to death.
