Hi,

I have a few questions and I was hoping for your input. My parents bought me a veiled chameleon for Christmas. We were not sure what age is was, it was very tiny though roughly 4-5 inches from nose to tip of tail. He died a few days later. I mentioned trying to get a Cham from you but my parents insisted that we still had a 30 day guarantee and that we should try finding an older one like the lady at the pet store suggested. We tried again and got one bigger, although not much bigger( it was only an inch or so bigger but it looked healthier. She ate very well for three days than stopped. For the past month she has only eaten a cricket a day and not drinking. I have checked temperature and everything possible that could be wrong. Many people I have talked to including the vet have told me that getting a Cham from Petco was not a good idea and they think it was a parasite.

IS Flchams a good place to order from?
Do you think i should try again?
What age should i go for?

I got a premium baby veiled from flchams and he seems healthy, eats 10-13 crickets per day and drinks water off the leaves fine. I think about any of the first few websites that pull up online would be pretty reputable breeders to get them from! Just make sure you read the care sheet and have the correct supplements and schedule!

What Size cage di you have? Post some pictures of the enclosure. Are you misting and checked the basking temperature? And have the correct lighting?

I suggest filling out the how to ask for help form. Pet store chams can do just fine with proper care and since you've had 2 not do so well I'd take a look at what you're doing. It's more than temperature.

• Feeding - I am feeding crickets and trying to feed superworms. I fed him 5 or 6 a day for the first 2 weeks them he started eating 1 a day. I put them in in the morning and i gut load them.
  
  
• Supplements - Repti Calcium w/o D3 everyday, calcium with d3 twice a week
  
  
• Watering - I have a dripper and i heavely mist 3-4 times a day times a day.
  
  
• Fecal Description - She had never been tested. The droppings are brown with a little bit of white
  
  
• History -not really any.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type 15 by 32 inch screen covered on 3 sides with a trashbag.
  
  
• Lighting -Reptisun,5.0 uvb 13 watt and Daylight blue 60 watt zoomed.Light on at 9am light off at 9pm
  
  
• Temperature - There is a digital thermometer. The basking spot is around 86f and the bottom is around 70. At night it drops to around 68 but sometimes reaches 65
  
  
• Humidity - I have a humidity gauge and it ranges from 50-70
  
  
• Plants - i have a golden pothos
  
  
• Placement - The top of the cage is about 5 feet off the floor and there is rarely any disturbance throughout the day besided me coming in and out of the room which is not often
  
  
• Location - Im in new england

You should upload a picture of the cage! Are You free ranging food or cup feeding? I'm no expert by any means just trying to help!

Are there any pieces bitten off of fake plants? Did you clean the pothos before putting it in? Do you have any substrate?

Well, nothing jumps out at me that you are doing wrong. It is possible that it could have a parasite. I know it is hard to get a poop for a fecal test if he is not eating. It would be helpful as suggested, that you post a picture of your set up. Sometimes people have their basking branch way too low and they are not able to warm up. I don't know if that is the case here. Also a pic of your chameleon too would be helpful, just so we may see something that you may not be aware of that could be wrong.

nothing is bitten off the plants and there is no substrate. i also cleaned ff the pothos

Hmmm I agree parasites but a picture of the Cham and enclosure would help. Also I wouldn't handle them at all for at least a week just so they can settle in. My Cham didn't eat for three days when he moved in but after that he slowly got an appetite. Also make sure you're using small enough crickets for them!

nt get my phone to work so thi is an older photo. there are more plants and vines in there now. I didnt hold him for two weeks and the crickets were small enough.

Yeah it was way too bare before. Make sure you have some thicker branches in there also. You should have varying widths, especially when he starts growing.

There should be more vines for walkways around the enclosure for them to get around and regulate their temperature and more leaves for water to land on when misted. How long did you mist for? Make sure it's for a couple of minutes to mimic rainfall. Do you have any pictures of the chameleons before they died?

You should not give d3 twice a week its twice a month and maybe 1 time a week at that age not twice you should look over the care sheets and eliminate as many things as possible you have been doing wrong .

Also there's a ton of different recommendations for supplements and I am no expert whatsoever but I've been dusting calcium with d3 once every two weeks and the week I don't dust with d3 I dust with a multivitamin spent supplement.

For you, I would tell you to get the correct suppliments as soon as possible. Correct supplementation is extremely important.
