Ponazuril and coccidia

Chameleons Canada

Avid Member
I just read this very interested thread:

https://www.chameleonforums.com/chameleons-coccidia-ponazuril-offers-16409/

I took my Panther Cham to the vet, he tested positive for coccidia. My Vet doesn't have too much experience with chameleons, but she is willing to listen to my advice, and help. She left a message saying she wanted to give my cham Albon, thankfully I read the thread above and I will suggest we use Ponazuril instead.

On this thread the dosage suggested is confusing to me so I am wondering if someone can help me out to figure it out. I want to give her the exact dosage and concentration required to make things easier. My cham weight is 93gr.

Thanks

It depends on the strength of your ponazuril suspension. Mine is 30mg/ml which equals out to a dose of .1ml per 100 grams. So you are looking at a dose of .093ml (roughly) for three days straight, 7 days off then 3 more days. If your concentration is 60ml/mg it will be half that.

hope this helps,

Todd

Thanks a Lot Todd,

That's what I thought. I'll post result since I think this drug can be the answer to many of the coccidia issues with chams.

You are welcome,

I recently had a particularly tough case that took 4 rounds of ponazuril to clear up the coccidia. it was a 14 month old panther. I think that it all depends on what point in the life cycle you catch the coccidia in on the first treatment. Good luck!
