Possible new Cham

These were just advertised where I live:
1.1 FLAP NECK CHAMELEON Chamaeleo dilepis adults $229.
1.1 RUDIS CHAMELEON Chamaeleo rudis adults $280.
I did a search on the forums, and found that Flap necks were a bit more difficult to care if you don't know what region they came from. Couldn't find much about the Rudis.
I've been waiting for a Carpet Cham for quite some time, and I have everything set up (plants are growing, humidity is kept up). I'm wondering if either of these types would be ok for me? I can always get a Carpet later.
Can anyone give me the size of males, and what they eat (in general). Of course I have to talk to this person and see the health of his animals first, but some quick thoughts would be great while I'm doing the research. Also a picture of a male Rudis would be helpful. I can only find the Flapneck. BTW, I am doing searches on the Forum, but I'm so excited my hands are shaking. It's not easy to find anything but veileds here. OMG!!!

$280 for a pair of Rudis???
rip off in my eyes. You could so find cheaper from FL CHAMS and other breeders. There usually WC's so CB can be difficult to nail. I have about 3 CB's left cause Brye(fearaffect) is gettin like 5 from me. Shoot me a PM for more details. I bet I could shoot you a price wayyyyyyyy cheaper than $280!:)

Oh, I think it's for ONE, not the pair. I'm in Canada, so lots of paperwork = lots of additional fees. That was my problem with Carpets. Found an amazing breeder on this forum, but when all the paperwork, CITIES, shipping stuff, etc was done we were looking at even more. The actual chams aren't expensive, it's the rest.

That may be true Anil, but you can not ship either the sternfeldi nor the dilepis without proper international shipping documentation (CITES). Almost all species of chameleons need these papers to be shipped legally across international borders. I believe I've touched on these in PM's to you already.

Lisa... you can find both species cheaper than that in Canada. I would not pay those prices for WC animals which is most likely what they are. I'm not familiar with keepers on the left coast but check this out: http://www.themrbe.com/futuredates.html and this if you are in the area come September: http://www.reptilebreedersexpo.ca/

Good luck!

TRACEEEEEE!!!!
MY BAD.
I soooo forgot about her location! XD

Oh I know! It's pretty sad when animals cost less than a movie or a magazine or a pack of smokes. :( My distaste for WC animals is well documented on this site alone.

I was at the Manitoba show (10 minutes from my house!) two weeks ago. I picked up 2 Pygmy Leaf chams that are both doing great! They were the only chams there, and the people selling them didn't have a clue. Luckily, they guy right next to them used to keep them, and he gave me proper info. He and another friend of his are trying to find me a Carpet cham, but they're not having much luck. They are both accomplished herp keepers (+ frogs, and chams, etc), and I'm lucky to have met them.
Today, in answer to my post here, AJA sent me a link from Adcham. Turns out my little Pygmies are actually Bearded Pygmy chams.
So, Winnipeg isn't exactly a chameleon hotbed, which leaves me with few choices. And yes, I realize that anything other than a panther or veiled will probably be wild caught, but ...? A panther is in my future one day, but not for a few years.

Sadly, it's almost impossible to find one here. That's why I'm looking at other kinds. I was having one shipped to me a few weeks ago, but at the last minute the shipper said the carpets didn't look healthy. I think they were sold before the shipment went.:(
