possible puncture problem?

I have a month and a half old jacksons chameleon. He is doing good on everything accept he can't shoot his tongue to capture anything to save himself.

I have caught him on several occasions eatting crickets that get caught in the corner of his cage, and when I hand feed him he will try a couple times to grab the worm/cricket (whatever i feed him) but never get it. In fact, I think i have seen him successfully grab something with his tongue but maybe three times. He opens his little mouth after he fails as notion for me to give it to him. Although I think its awfully adorable, I don't want to ruin his future by continually hand feeding him this way.

Has anyone else experienced these awkward habits?

Tongue issues can be the result of an injury or an infection or as a part of MBD...and likely dehydration too.

Hard to tell without more information.
