Possible Respritory Infection

We bought a juvi Chameleon about 1 month - 1 1/2 months ago. Where we got him from was pretty sketchy anyways. I've only seen him eat 4 crickets within the first 2 weeks, then I cage fed as he wouldn't eat from a cup. So I am actually unsure if he has eaten recently. He is pretty skinny, his eyes are sunken in (which I knew he was dehydrated so we were spraying a bit more often and he has a dripper), and I hand fed him Reptiboost twice. Yesterday he opened his mouth and there was sticky fluids in it. We called all day yesterday to find a vet, and I finally got a hold of one today. He gets dropped off tomorrow morning at 830am. He is so bad, we honestly didn't think he would make it overnight. He was also sleeping during the day, that started yesterday but he's had 1 eye closed for a week. I figured it was due to shed in his eye. But besides the dehydration, I haven't really seen any other signs of a RI. So now I need to make sure he lives to see another day so he can see the vet. Last night I set up a warm mist humidifier and rigged it up to go in his cage. Is there anything else I can do? I can't seem to get the ambient temps up above 75.6f. My husband caught him trying to drink water early this morning. He will stick his nose towards water and arch up but never really drink.

The black table in the back right with the brown bag on it is where he is normally kept. I moved him so I had room for the humidifier.

im not sure if I can be any help solving the RI issues other than telling you to go see a vet. I noticed that in the picture you had 93% humidity. That is too much for a veiled, they need 40%-70% humidity and having the humidifier on constantly could be part of the issue with the respiratory infection. Also, 98 degrees is far too hot for a juvenile veiled. I recommend reading the veiled chameleon care sheet under resources on this website that way you can make some minor changes to your chameleon care. I hope all goes well at the vet, and I am sorry to hear your little guy isn't doing well

If you are thinking he has an RI then you should get him to a vet to get checked out and get the proper treatment if he does have one.

When using a humidifier I'm pretty sure you're supposed to use a cool mist humidifier, not a hot mist.

Also I would search on here on how to properly put a dehydrated cham into a shower to get it to drink.

I'd help you out more but like you, I'm also a new cham owner. I can only tell you what I've been reading In here.

I was also advised from other people on this site not to have a humidifier at all, that they create a fog and with chameleons that you want a mist not a fog... that a fog can cause respiratory infections.

I wish you luck but if I were you I'd try to find a way to get it to drink and I personally think that the shower method is the fastest way to make that happen. Hopefully someone with actual experience shows up to chime in.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just got home from work and my husband had text me that he had passed while I was gone. In a last ditch effort to save him last night, I had found this post and did what was recommended. The vet agreed that it was better than leaving the enclosure the way it was. The humidifier was creating water on the screen and a warmer enclosure, there was no visible fog. I gave it a shower yesterday.

A warmer enclosure with higher humidity was recommended to help him rid himself of the fluid in his lungs.
