Post-laying care for veiled

My female laid a clutch of what I am assuming are infertile eggs last night. I've had her since she was 4 mo. old and she has not been with my male yet. Right now she is in the process of filling and tamping down the hole she dug.

She has definitely laid, since she is much trimmer than before. I'm interested in knowing what 'special' care she needs after laying. I use Ca++ supplements as part of their regular diet (repti-cal 1X per week, repti-vite 1-2X per week). Is there any need to increase her Ca++ post laying? I do plan to give her a good shower when she finishes. Any other suggestions for her?

Thanks in advance!

I would not use the general vitamin supplement more than twice a month, Calcium with D3 also twice a month and calcium w/out D3 up to 4 times per week.

How old is she. What did you use for the egg site what type of material?

She is just about a year old. I used a mix of potting soil and vermiculate (sp?) in a basic flower pot about 14" deep, although I could hear her scraping the bottom while she was digging.

I know better than to use brand names, but did.

I'm using a Ca++ product named jurrisi-cal 1X per week, and use the repti-cal D3 about 1X per month.

I am curious about the vitamin supplements, though. I do use the repti-vite 1X per week. Is there something in there that is not easily excreted?

Again, (and hopefully more clearly stated) I would reduce the "multi-vitamin and increase Calcium w/out D3.
Make sure that your supplements do not contain Phosphorous.
I don't know those supplements (except for the rep-cal)
I use:
rep-cal calcium (no D3) 2 to 4 times per week
rep-cal calcium (with D3) 2 times per month
Herptivite (multi-vit.) 2 times per month
Vitamin A (preformed <fish oil>) 1 tiny drop: 2 times per month

Post Laying Care.........

Other than adjusting the dusting routine per Brad, I would just make an effort to make sure she is drinking and eating. Watch her closely for a week. She might be tired for a day after laying but should start eating like a pig for a week or so to replenish her natural body fat.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I'm worried about the Ca++ levels now that she has laid. And I didn't even think about the Vit A. Great suggestion!

I would feed her well for a couple of days and then cut her back so she won't make a large clutch. Make sure she is well watered...and I recommend the same schedule with the calcium and vitamins that Brad said.

I think the reptivite has preformed vitamin A...so be aware of that.

Good to know Kinyonga.
I am not familiar with the repti-vite.
You can overdose on the pre-formed A, so do use caution!
Less is more.

Yes, I ran into a problem overusing the reptivite and ended up with a female panther with gular edema (still recovering, but doing well). Now I'm more on the schedule Brad suggested.

Great to know the supplement issues. I've been trying to get more into the gut load of the crickets I feed, and rely less on the powders. I'll trim back on the repi-vite.

Thanks for the info and help.

One other quick question... now that she's proven she's up to the task, how long should I wait before the into with the male. From what I've read here and other places, 2X a year clutches should be about max. I'm more concerned about her and her health rather than the breeding.

Thanks again!

How old is she?
She needs to re-coup now. I would not introduce them unless she's at least a year old and has had a couple months to recover from laying her first clutch.
