Power outage

Hi everyone, last night we lost power around 11:30pm and I thought it would be fixed by morning but it wasn’t. So I opened the windows but it still wasn’t very bright so after a few hours I brought Edvin outside and let him have some natural uvb for a while until the power came back.

I would like everyone to give me some advice for what to do during power outages so I can be better prepared for them in the future. 😁

Back up generator. Ours runs the whole house and central air with no problem. I live in Florida so a generator is a must for the hurricanes we get, might not have power for weeks or months sometimes.

So the biggest things with this type of situation is controlling temps. They should not get overheated or too cold depending on the time of year. You can put cold packs on a cage to try to cool it down and they make hand warmer you can also use on the top of cage if it is too cold to warm it up a bit.

But they are perfectly ok otherwise if you do not get power back asap to go without lights etc. They will either sleep through it or just be a little slower. You want to have a misting bottle on hand for situations like this as well.

Do not feed during these times either as you do not have a basking lamp for them to warm up and digest.

You can set up an outdoor cage just remember direct sun is not good and can actually overheat and kill a chameleon.
