Problem with one eye?

Heyo!

My new chameleon Momo has been doing exceptionally well. She'll eat her greens and insects whenever given. She has shed once since I had gotten her. It shocked me for a minute as the shed could be classified as an explosive shed. Anyways, after she got her old skin off, there was one piece on the edge of her eyelid that refused to let go. I misted more than usual that day in hopes to get it to release.

After I did not see the shed connected anymore, I continued her normal schedule. One morning, as I turned on the lights, she opened one eye but kept the other closed. I figured it was odd so I did some researching but it didn't look like an infected eye. I'm pretty sure the shed may have gotten into her eye and I don't know how to help her. She is still quite wary of me so I haven't been able to handle her at all. I increased the mistings again and it seemed to help because she began to use that eye again, although it is not all the way open.

Due to me not being able to handle her all too well, is there a way I can help her out?

*wow, I just realised how long this was...sorry*

Actually it's not too horribly long XD don't worry. Usually I would jump to a shower with this one... the water helps with cleaning. How long are you misting for? Do you have an automatic mister?

I mist for about 3 minutes or until the mistings bottle I use runs out of water. I don't use cold water but I also don't use hot water. Unfortunately, I have not gotten an automatic mister. It is on my list of things to get when I get my next paycheck though ^_^

I also read about the shower method, but because she won't allow me to pick her up yet, how would I accomplish that?

Shower is most likely going to happen with less stress if you can coax her onto a branch? And then move her onto like a plant or something you have put into the shower? If you do the shower bounce it off a wall near her, I recommend closing the door to get it steamy and check on her... Since it's her first time every 3-5 minutes and set an alarm. She may be stressed in the beginning but I recommend at least doing five minutes at a time. It is more likely to get her used to it. Also adjust your water to make sure it continues to stay warm enough.

Okay, definetly will try the shower when she wakes up. I'll keep you posted.

Okay, she did NOT like the shower. I know that because she scrambled onto my arm, which she doesn't do.

When I turned on her light this morning, her eye looked a little crusty but it went away after some water dripped onto the eye. Since she didn't like the shower, the best I could do was drip lukewarm water from my fingers onto the top of her head. She did the eyeball pop cleaning thing, really freaky by the way, and the eye looked a little better.

Okay, I freaked out over nothing.

There was fuzz sticking to her eye that wouldn't come off. We have now bonded and she let's me touch her face! Wahh! I'm blown away! Definetly not scared of me anymore!

I would still keep an eye on it. The fuzz may not be the actual cause, but just was able to stick due to some discharge from the eye. Hopefully it is better now, but don't let your guard down just yet ;).

I would definitely keep an eye on it for sure. If it starts doing it again you may want to try boiling some water in a kettle and then adding it your mist bottle and cooling it just a bit with some cold water. Usually I still want the water in the bottle to be hot, but when it comes out it will be warm but it will be more accepted for them.

To do that how warm of water do I use

Okay, bad news. I think I have caught her in the early stages of a sinus infection. Part of her eye is beginning to swell. It not enough that she can't use the eye but it is slightly noticeable. She also has very tiny bumps between her eyes and on her 'forehead'. I will upload some pictures.

looks very likely, good catch ^^ it isn't as bad as you think. Won't be easy for sure especially since vets like to push baytril. I think there is another antibiotic that is better for chams not sure. I highly recommend getting her to see a vet as soon as possible.

I have an exotic vet nearby, but I'm snowed in at the moment. Can she last a few more days?

I wouldn't assume it's dire emergency since you are snowed in. I would definitely keep a close eye on her for any serious decline. If she's still eating and drinking OK I would keep it more to just getting there as soon as logically possible, though it definitely will get worse without treatment by a vet. Make sure she is hydrated. Lots of water. Let it dry out of course, but she needs to stay hydrated for sure, top priority.

Okay, she still is eating and drinking. I turned the dropper up so more water is available and I will mist the enclosure for 3 minutes every 4 hours unless the leaves still look wet. Thank you for helping me out.
