My silkworms are now 2-1/4inch long, and I would like to pupate them. I have them in a shallow tupperware 5" by 10," should I put them in a new container with places to build the cocoon?

On the Hornworms, I think they bury in soil, any tricks to them?:D

Put in some egg crates and the silkies should build, as for the hornworms, i just leave them and they pupate without soil.

I used toilet paper rolls cut up into inch width donuts for silkworms. Egg crates would work perfectly. Even pieces of papertowels (they will roll these up like they would leaves)

Can anyone tell me how to raise hormworms from scratch? ordering the to Montana is expensive and at least half of them are usually dead.:(

Contact hornworms.com. They can send you eggs, food and containers.:D

I would start with live worms and let them cycle.... HW eggs don't ship well. Even when FRESH they don't do so well. Getting them to term and into moths isn't that hard. You just need somewhere for the moths to mate and lay the eggs. Something glossy like the back side of packing tape is perfect so the eggs don't stick. then just keep the eggs on a dry surface with chow near by for them to find their way to.
