hello all, im not new to chameleons, i have 3 ambilobes and they have been lively and well for a long while now. But i am new to pygmies and i understand there are a fair share of differences. I was curious as to if i could house a chameleon happily in a 5 gallon tank id take much care of it and let them free range as much as i let my others which is alot. And would a chameleon be happier with a mate in the cage and is this possible in a 5 gal? Hope everyone is happy and healthy thanks.

I think a 5 gallon tank is too small, even for one pygmy. I would recommend a 10 gallon. You wouldn't want to free range a pygmy, even a little bit. They live near the ground, so they are fine hidden with a lot of plants and ground cover. If you decide to get into them later, may I suggest 2 females instead of a male and female? Having one of each puts a lot of pressure on the female, as far as mating, and all the eggs she lays will shorten her life. If you are interesting in breeding, then you may want to go with one male and two females. You will need a bigger enclosure though. The Exoterra ones are really nice.
