quad eating leaves?

and he wasn't just "nibbling", he plucked an entire ficus leaf and munched it up! i've been hearing an unusual rustling the past few days, and this is the first time i checked it out, so maybe this is something he's been doing. that couldn't be a sign of anything wrong, right? I know chams sometimes may eat plants, but I thought only veiled, and I've heard in some cases even they never will.

Jasper eats his dragon plant so i tried to hand some collard greens and he went right past it and ate the dragon plant still... Weirdo...

Why don you try a veggie clip with some greens or cale he might eat it. I wish mine would eat veggies. Ive never had a cham eat em.

I think i will, i mean he sorta hands feeds. He won't hesitate to walk on my hand and shoot the bugs out of the feeding cup im holding. It would be awesome if I could get him eating a green from my hand. But I'll try the veggie clip first, thanks for the idea.

Scoop

This is a first, AFAIK. I have been keeping and watching this sp. for a while but this is the first report of herbivory in quads I've read.

Anyone else?

I haven't noticed our quadricornis eating any vegetation, unless they caught it while aiming for a feeder. But even then they tend to spit it out. It's the first time I've heard of it, but it doesn't necessarily surprise me, I guess... :)

i thought this was very unusual, i even wanted to run and snap a pic, plus I thought it would've made a good pic the way he had himself suspended in the thick of the ficus

I have never read it before either!

However, yes, it can be a sign of something not going right. He may be deshydrated, he may be trying to get some vitamins out of it, or maybe he needs his food to be more various.

So if i were you, i'd try to get a picture next time :D , but i would also take a closer look on everything he eats and drinks and if it's good enough for him. A good review is needed in my opinion!

good point, I'll take everything into consideration. he looks so healthy, alert, bulging eyes, etc. but maybe he was a little off and didn't get enough to eat/drink at one point.
