I just purchased a cup of 2-4 inch hornworms last week and my cham wont eat them for some reason. now when i bought the cup last week there was only 1 large hw about 4 inches in length but now most of the 20 that were in the cup have almost reached full size and are almost out of food. Once the cup is empty what will happen to the hornworms if my cham doesnt eat them? Will the cocoon or pupate into their next stage of life and if so what will it become and can my vieled eat it safetly?

Wow no one answered this?

Well, when your horns run out of food, they'll either start killing each other and eating them, or just flat out die.

They could cocoon, but you'll have to monitor the worm for it to show you it's ready.

I assume a cham could eat the moth as well, you've been feeding it stuff the worm eats, no difference I would think.

hornworms eat the food in the pod very quickly. Buy silkworm food or hornworm food (both work) and set up a small container for them taht is ventilated. Hornworm food is beige and makes the hornworms turn teal. Silkworm food is green and makes the hornworm turn green. Put the hornworms in the container with the food. I use a container because I find that when I put food in the pod, it falls down and is dangerous to the hornworms. Hornworms pupate into big Sphinx/hummingbird moths. These are safe to feed your larger chams. hope this helps.

You know they are ready to pupate when the line down there back starts to throb, they stop eating and start wandering around, at that time you can bury them in some soil and make sure they have a stick to dry there wings on or a screen to climb when the emerge out of the soil ( if that is your plan :p )
