OK so I am finally in my last stages of preparing for my new panther that i will soon be getting, hopefully on a month or two...but my question is... i purchased a little dripper and it came with a little package called "reptisafe" and it is supposed to be a water conditioner for the water and supposedly removes chloramines and chlorine.....my question is, should i always be using this when refilling up the little drippier??? should i go out to the store and buy more of this stuff??? and when it comes to misting, do you guys use regular tap water?? do you treat the water??? do you boil the water???
any recommendations and advice is gladly appreciated!

I am no expert at all but what i have heard is that chorine and other mineral in human tap water is bad for chams. Apparently you are suppose to use distilled water, which, you can either buy at stores or boil your own tap water. Distilled water is to be used on the drip system and the misting system. Basically, that comes in contact with the cham's body would be a good rule to use. This is just what i do and what i've heard.

i use filtered water from my fridge. and let me mention that the filters are 45 dollars:eek: yea and that goes for everything mist and drip. i wouldnt use tap unless u are in some kind of crazy hurry to leave. i admit i have filled a dripper with tap water. it just take like 5mins. for the fridge to fill it. lol ZZZzZZzZZzZzZZzZZzzzz.....

lol.... do you guys think bottled water would be safer to use???? but I'm more on the distilled water side... i might pick me up a couple of gallons..

hey justinigor... don't you just love down here in Florida??? i certainly do cause the humidity is great down here... especially for us chameleon owners!

depends on what state you live.
I live in soCal and i do not find it imperative to use reptisafe. i just use the same water i use to drink.
I try use reptisafe but since they contain calcium and other mineral enhancements, it messes up my supplementation regiment.

hey! a fellow floridian(sp)! yea it was freakin cold yesterday and today. 65! ha ha dont be jealous upstate guys! yea i love it here. I'm sure the california guys are ahppy too.

I see.... I live in florida and I can literaly can smell the chlorine when I take a shower or even when it is in a cup... so i defnitley dont drink it and will make sure not to use it on my new cham,lol.... but do you think bottled water is safe??? like desani, aqaufina,etc...

i say just buy a brita purifier or something that you can attach to your sink.
buying bottled water every time will make you bankrupt..
After all, in the wild, chameleons don't get to drink evian y'know :D

lol... that is funny.. I think i will defnitley invest into something of that nature.

I just read that if you leave water exposed to air for 24 hours the chlorine will evaporate, but sadly enough the new water additive chloramine does not... so I would stick with the reptisafe.

I thought that was a fun little fact!

i heard that if you use distilled water that the water lacks vital minerals and the sutch. but i just use tap water. i have chicago water.
