Question about Water Dragons

Does anyone here have a water dragon? If so, what are some pros and cons? Would you recommend a water dragon or a chameleon? Thanks in advance!

It really depends on what you really want and have ready. Water dragons take a much larger viv.

Pro's to chameleon

-Smaller enclosure needed and is easier to maintain
-IMO prettier to look at
-Easier to handle although water dragons won't get as stressed as a cham will over holding
-Many different breeds to choose from
-Watching them eat is much cooler

Pro's to a waterdragon

-Much cheaper than the Panther Chameleons
-Loves to swim in water, fill the bath tub up and its really cool to watch
-More durable than a chameleon

Bottomline, both are great pets. If you want a pet you can hold often(multiple times a day for long periods of time) I'd get the water dragon. Although keep in mind an adult water dragon should have a tank 6'Lx3'Wx4H.

cool thanks. i had this thread set up 4 my friend, but now he is looking at blue longed skinks or bearded dragons which i think are better options 4 him than the wd

I've kept water dragons before and while wonderful, they take a slight bit more work than a chameleon, in that they foul water VERY quickly, much like green iguanas. If you do decide to get one, build or buy your enclosure for easy cleaning/draining of the water features because you'll be doing it every other day. If I was to buy another, I'd put in a sink drain that emptied right into my sewer, filtration in the water, and a spray nozzle attached to my water lines to clean it out. This will save a lot of cleaning and headaches in the long run trust me. Good luck!

Thanks so much @oneillchameleons! I'll tell my friend. I'm actually in the process of convincing him not to purchase one, only due to the fact that I don't think he's ready to start out with a wd as his first reptile ever, and I don't think he has the space for an adequately sized cage. Thanks so much guys, all your input and feedback is SO helpful!

So do blue tongue skinks, if you don't mind the price tag. Northerns tend to be very personable and intelligent. Indonesians are typically more grumpy.

Honestly, I wish they were more popular. My first reptile was a blue tongue, and she lived for fifteen years.
