Question 1) why do some ppl in their signatures have thinks like "2.1 bob- male veiled"? What's up with the number specifications??
Question 2) what is a drainage system, and why do I need one if my dripper goes into my plants?
Question 3) If I have to feed Ezra (my veiled) such a wide variety of insects, how do you propose I keep them alive LOL?!
Question 4) Is putting news paper in the bottom of his enclosure a no-no? My mother (who knows nothing about reptiles) insists that the chemicals on thenews paper will KILL Ezra!! I've got paper towels in the bottom as of right now.
Question 5) What's up with the color patterns? I understand that if they're super bright, they're stressed but, what does it mean if they're a bit drab? Not GRAY or something but, more earthy colored? Does this mean they're calm/relaxed? Ezra has been these earthy type colors all day today!...I'm hoping this is a good sign
Question 6) do I need a misting machine if I intend on spraying the enclosure/plants with a spray bottle? Is this more of convinience thing??

Sorry, I know these questions may seem trivial to you guys, but these are things I haven't discovered the answers to quite yet:) Thanks in advancefor your help :D

1. 1.2 velid means they own 1 male and two female. 2.A drainage system is very important because to want your viv to completely dry out between misting and if all the water is going into your plant it will drown it. 3.Mix up the feeding weekly, buy two or three different feeders a week or buy bulk and feed them your self 4. No it's not a problem it's easy and quick to clean and replace 5. Arnt the best person to answer as I don't keep velid 6. Mostly for people who arnt able to most during the day because of work or school commitments

Dark colours usually mean they are stressed, which isn't surprising because he's got lots & lots of new stuff to get used to! You'll find he brightens up as he settles in. Also, sometimes they are dark in colour when basking to absorb the heat.
Bright green means a happy chameleon, mine goes that colour when he's playing 'king of the castle' & sits like a buddha at the top of his cage, or when he's out in natural sun light. Also when sleeping.
When he's angry at me or curious, he goes stripey and spotty.

Drainage methods will depend on the cage u r using.
I use ReptiBreeze cages. They have a sheet of plastic for the floor.

I drill some small holes in it, place the entire cage in a dura tray (can be found at any rabbit supplies store), drill a hole in a corner of the dura tray, install a 1/2'' bulkhead, attach a peice of plastic tubing, and let it drain into a large bucket on the floor.
Place 4 pieces of wood or plastic under each corner of the cage to give it a slight "lift" off the dura tray so the water can flow and not pool up.

I keep all my cages elavated, like on tables, so gravity does it's thing.

Misting several times a day, plu a dripper = lots of standing water = bacteria and parasites.
You NEED to drain to keep your setup clean ;)

P.S. your cage should be elavated so your cham's basking spot is at standing eye level or (preferibly) higher.
This give him a sence of security being higher up then you and will make them less stressful.

I'd like to recommend this type of sprayer:

It makes it easy to mist a whole lot which is good for your chameleon. As noted, if all the water stays in your plant, your plant will die, so make sure the plant can drain, and the cage can drain. You could try putting something on the floor to absorb the water but you'll need to replace it/wash it at least once a day, probably more so having the cage drain is a real labor saver for you.

Thank you for ALL the suggestions! It's going to take me a bit to get things "just right" so, I guess I'll just be cleaning for the next 4 days, then I intend on going to my nearest pet supply storee on my next day off to get a better mister, drainage supplies, and different types of insect. Also, ijust freakin' lost my calcium powder (the stuff w/out the d3). I'm effin PO'd :| blaaaaah!!! :p

I FOUND THE CALCIUM POWDER!!! YAAAAY! O....k I've one last question. I see on here, some ppl feed their veileds 7 insects....I fed Ezra 3....I don't want to OVER feed him cuz u know, he was pretty much starving. What's a good guage to go by?? THANKS! -Cyndi
