Thank you so much for the help with my little man they have said the muscle And bone deterioration is a sarcoma or carsonoma type cancer I am just sick and angry right now radiation is the only treatment and they would have to remove part of the back so that is a lot to put home through not sure where we are going from been trying to see herbal solitons but not finding much thank you all again I wish you and your babies the best

Very sorry to hear. I personally would let the chameleon live until it's comfort and quality of life seems impaired, then have him euthanized. I know it's hard to contemplate and I am very sorry that you are going through this.

I am very sorry to hear this. I have a chameleon with cancer too but his type there is no treatment for but chemo does work on some kinds of cancer in chameleons.

Romeo was diagnosed on Friday. Malignant, slow-growing sarcoma on his leg.
Placed so removal is not possible.
I am sooooooooooo angry!
How does an 8oz little guy get sick like that?
So, he started on cbd today, and I found him back up where he used to sleep before I caught on that something was wrong...
Dosage is my bane - anyone have experience with this?
I feed him with dubias. I put a drop on one and he ate it & I am gently dabbed cbd on his leg.
Any suggestions or telling of experience would be helpful...

@Moosma I don't have the experience you are looking for, but wanted to tell you that I am very sorry!! I had cancer, and did 2 1/2 years of chemo I can't imagine putting a cham (or any animal) through that.

My thoughts will be with you and Romeo! Breath, keep your head up, and try to stay strong

Sorry to both of you guys. Like Katacara, I too am a cancer survivor. Although they told me it was terminal, somehow I beat it. I think I understand what you guys are going through as I had a dog that had to be put down due to cancer. The best of luck to you and your chams.

I myself am four years out from my fight with cancer; one more year and I can run down the street laughing... I KNOW cancer hurts.
I don't want that for Romeo.
Does anyone know anything about dosage of CBD for a moose of a guy (he weighs a little over 8oz)
I am guessing, and that is scary.

I did 200hrs of chemo (and 7 weeks of radiation); I cannot imagine years!
Stay healthy, and yes, please, lift Romeo & me in positive thoughts.
Thank you!

Do you know the strength of your CBD? Does it have any THC at all? I would hope so. 2% o think is acceptable or something for it to be considered not psycogenic.

If you can get back to me with that I can probably come out with something very rough for you to follow. Of course you'd want to watch for signs and adjust as needed. Even if it doesn't solves the cancer it could give him lots of pain relief until his time comes.

Wait are we still talking about a lizard here or is the CBD for a person?
IME responsible pet owners are the only ones qualified to make the call for their particular animal- no one can give you advice on when the right time is to euthanize.
Just remember that animals don't fear death the same we humans do. They do experience pain though. And probably something akin to frustration when their bodies fail them. I have had to go through it with all sorts of animals, and it never gets easier but when you know it's the right time my best advice is to contact a vet that will travel to you to do the deed. Usually a local vet or internet search will offer options/phone numbers and the extra money spent is well worth it. I will never drive to a vet again to put an animal down, it's exponentially more traumatic for all involved to do so.

There are not many exotic vets that I know of anywhere who travel to put animals down. Plus vets can't prescribe or give advice legally on CBD for reptiles or any exotics yet. So you are pretty much out of luck there.

You don't need an "exotic vet". I live in a pretty rural area and there are plenty of vets that will come here- I didn't know of any either until I made the necessary searches and calls. They don't need to specialize in reptiles- anyone that went to veterinary school is qualified to euthanize an animal and will have access to the necessary drugs.

If you decide on euthsanizing, for chameleons and certain other reptiles there are special "rules". If a chameleon is not put down properly it can suffer for quite a while because of hypoxia. The brain uses the remaining oxygen slowly....so its necessary to put the chameleon out first and then pith/totally destroy the brain.

Decapitation is not enough...putting it out is not enough....freezing it is inhumane...

"Lack of response is not the same thing as lack of pain."

I don't disagree, but that's why veterinary school is as rigorous as any other medical school.
Suggesting that a vet needs to be an exotic specialist to euthanize an animal is like suggesting you need to see an infectious disease specialist for a flu shot.

Franquixote...if you're referring to my post I didn't say anything about a vet....just explained that there were certain acceptable ways to euthanize a chameleon in case it was necessary.

I am so sorry to hear about both cancer chameleons. That is not easy. Prayers for both of you guys and your little babies. You will know in your heart when it is time.
