Raising common roaches?

Has anyone raised any common roaches? These are the big flying roaches we have in the south. I've been catching a few of them and keeping them in a seperate container. Today i noticed a large egg looking thing hanging on the back of his butt. I would like to raise these if their not too much trouble. Does anyone know about this or a website that might? Thanks David

WHY????!!!! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
ewwwww common roaches are pest and they are very dirty.
plus, if there are some escapees, your home will soon be infested by them..
trust me... i knowwww what a roaches infestation look like...
I used to live in Indonesia where everywhere is humid... and roaches thrives there...
shudder shudder

Thanks for the info Brad.. You mean there are actually "roach folk" out there? LOL. And I thought I needed to get a life!
Dodolah...Actually, roaches make a great feeder for chams. These are the type that live outdoors but I'm being very careful to not infestate my home or grounds with them. I usually only see these in the winter, not sure why but I keep them for about a week and gutload them. My chams go nuts for them. Their very fast and expert hiders. I don't leave them in the cage at night though as they are nocturnal and I'm not sure what they might do to my chams. Thanks for the replies. David

well.. i know that roaches are good feeder (like blaptica dubia).
but to breed the common one is too risky, man..

I'm not breeding them in my house. I have a barn about 140 yards from the house that I raise my projects in. Currently have grasshoppers that I'm having no luck with, crickets that my chams won't eat anymore, Fly maggotts that I think are going to work out great and roaches. Will try phoenix worms next. I'm having to resort to these drastic measures because of one very picky veiled. Panther eats whatever I throw at him. I hope to be able to let people know about the fly maggot's next week. I bought these at a bait shop and you almost can't kill these things. I just hope they are a big enough variety that I can gutload with veggies or something besides meat. David

Have to go out everyday anyway, Horses. If these do alright though, I'll order some of the other feeder varieties. Do you have any suggestions? I don't know the difference in the types they sell at Mulberry, etc. David

Man Go FOR IT!

As long as you "flush" out the original roaches of anything they might had previously eaten before you feed them to your chams, all should be sweet!

It's a cheap way to start a good feeder colony.... chams aren't going to descriminate between the "commons" and Dubias (I think that's what you guys call them).
Cheers
Scott.

O.. ok then.. as long it's not in your house, man.
as far as maggots goes, I think you should feed your cham when they grow into flies.
Chams goes nut when they see flies.
Plus, flies will eat anything and quite easy to gutload.

I puree 2 boiled egg + Honey + Organic baby cereal + plain yogurt.
When they hatched from their pupae stage, they'll immediately eat the food and their tummy will be fat (and you can actually which flies has eaten and which hasn't).

How long does it take for them to come out of the pupae stage? Mine have been in a pupae for about 3 days now. I'll try your recipe. As I got these from the bait store, I have no idea what type of flies they are and the owner of the bait shop didn't know either. They were only 2 bucks for 100 though so I don't think I can go wrong. Thanks for the info. David

Dave, i'm not sure of your fly specie, but it depends on the temperature, that determines how long or short the pupae hatch.
Do a google search, you'll find all the info you need for your specific fly specie.
Cheers
Scott.

i would like to breed roaches here at home.i live in a city and my neighbors would not appeciate them at all for the simple reason there already is roaches roaming around,i see on average 10 a month which is not bad compared to other homes on my block where people will see 100's a month inside their house.i have been seeing crickets from time to time lurking around then again i have a leak on my roof thats where they lurk cause the water.
but i would like to breed 2 types of roaches.
