I just got these vitamins and was wondering which ones I should give and how often I should give them? Or another way to put it...How do you give your cham. these vitamins?:)

Izzy is a 9 in. veiled cham.

ok rep cal makes many supplements, calcium with d3, calcium without d3, and the herptivite. i would use for of the calcium without d3 most, the herptivite second most, and calcium with d3 the least. so a schedule like calcium without d3 M W & F, herptivite T & TR, calcium with d3 saturday and no supplement on sunday. that is my schedule on how i dust.

You will need , to also , get Calcium without D3. Crix should be dusted with calcium each feeding , but with calcium with D3 only once or twice a week. THe herptivite can be used twice a month. I would also suggest Minerall O, which can be used twice a month also.

Oh man, my mom said that I can't spend any more money for a while as I'm already indebt to her $300 for everything else. What do I do about vitamins without D3???:(:(

Use the D3 until you can augment with a non D3 formula
the D3 is really for indoor animals
if you can get them direct sunlight outside and not through glass
you should lay off the D3.

I have kept/bred/raised veileds for over 12 years now....and have had chameleons since the late 80's (Geesh, am I really that old?). Most of my female veileds live to be over 6 years old and the males live even longer.

Here is what I do....
I provide them with UVB light so that they can produce D3 and thus use the calcium in their diets. The UVB should not pass through glass or plastic. The choice of bulb is important since some cause problems with the chameleon's eyes.

Appripriate temperature is important for digestion.

Since most feeder insects have a poor ratio of calcium to phos. I dust the insects at most feedings with a phos.-free calcium powder.

I dust the insects twice a month with a vitamin powder that contains a beta carotene source of vitamin A since beta carotene won't build up in the system. There is some controversy about whether all chameleons can convert beta carotene to vitamin A so some people give their chameleons a vitamin with preformed vitamin A in it once in a while. Excess preformed vitamin A can prevent the D3 from doing its job and lead to MBD though, so don't overdo it.

If a chameleon gets no direct sunlight, then it may need some D3 supplement. I dust with a phos.-free calcium/D3 powder twice a month. D3 from SUPPLEMENTS can cause an overdose...so don't overdo it either.

Phosphorous, calcium, D3 and vitamin A all play important roles in bone health and should be in balance. When trying to attain this balance, you need to look not only at the supplements but at what you feed your chameleon and what you feed the insects to see how much of each is in things.

So...to answer your question....IMHO you do need the phos.-free calcium as well as the vitamin powder and the cal/D3 that you already bought. Believe me, its cheaper to buy the supplements than it is to have to pay for vet bills if your chameleon ends up with health issues from not supplementing and feeding your chameleon properly!

lbesok asked..."Kinyonga, could you please recommend a good phosphorus free calcium?"...Brad already told you! There are likely others out there, but IMHO if you find one you like that works then its best to stick with it...I think it makes it easier to keep things balanced.
