Reptibreeze xl and cats

So I have 3 cats that show zero intrest in my chameleon right now he's in a glass with screen top enclosure I want to combine to two reptibreeze xl for him to have more space but am wondering if the screen enclosure is strong enough for a cat to climb on top of with out falling through it's either this or I have to build a bigger stronger enclosure for him

Sadly, it has happened that a cat got on top of a ReptiBreeze, fell thru the screen and just one bite was all it took….🥺 My two cats have since passed on, but they were both old and never bothered with the chams while they were in their enclosures. I’m not sure they even knew they existed as I use my fake plants on the outside of the screen door to provide extra privacy and cover the back and sides with (at that time) a faux background. When I had a young cat and a crazy kitten staying with me, I did not leave them unattended in the room with my chameleons as they knew they were there. It also helped that I keep my enclosures sitting up quite high and there is nothing for a cat to leap from to get to the enclosure top. They still could have climbed the screen if they wanted and had the chance. I adore cats, but they absolutely can not be trusted to be left alone in a room with small animals.

I don't have problems with our old cat. He is nearly blind, and all he does is walk from room to room and sleep on the back of the couch. But just from putting my xl reptibreeze together I can only imagine what his claws could do to that screen if he started scratching it. I was so afraid myself that I would accidentally make an unwanted rip in it while fastening all the branches and vines. It's stronger than I thought, but I'd never take a chance if I had a young cat. I'm not even a fan of sitting my lamps and dripper directly on top, so I made a framed screen out of hardware cloth to set everything on so it wouldn't sag. I did cut away the wire under the uvb strip though, so it wouldn't have a chance of blocking any of those precious rays.

I’ll admit that I found my cat on top of my reptibreeze XL a couple times early on so I had to rig it so that he couldn’t jump up there. I worried about him falling through and also about him knocking the various lighting fixtures off. He learnt quickly that he couldn’t go up there anymore but every cat is different, some cats would likely find a way but thankfully he gave up fast.

Cats are going to knock everything off the top
Cats are going to find a warm spot on top, and odds are fall through.

The only "cat proof" is going to be a converted display case or converted piece of furniture.

The current el cheapo is getting a steel locker/cabinet, and sawing out 4 windows in the front to replace with screen or glass. Vent as necessary.

They come in a few shapes. If you get the tall thin one, bare in mind chams are like fishies, they tend to stay at one level most of the time, vs crawl/swim up and down.

I don't have problems with my cat trying to get on enclosures, however a reptile friend of mine does. She uses these bird spikes, link below, and it has kept her cat off of the tops since she added them.

I don't believe it would hurt the cat but they can be cut to fit around light fixtures and such. Maybe something to look into. Good luck!

So update this is going to become his new enclosure once I'm done cutting holes in the doors for screens and the lighting system for now his tank fits on the shelf nicely but I will be putting drainage system in bottom half and all screen sides the waterproofing the entire inside not sure what I'm gonna use yet but I think he'll enjoy his new home it's a little thin but it will be about 4 ft tall by 3ft 8 inches wide and about 18 inches deep and he won't be bothered by my cats and my dog anymore
