Rescued veiled from So. Fl.

I took the ride and picked up the rescued cham from Rick. The poor guy was in pretty bad shape. I took him right to the vet so I don't have any pics. They are going to try to hydrate him and get him eating, so I left him there. Sorry I don't have any pics.

His color was very washed out. The eyes were bulgie, but he was skin and bone. He had 2 big sperm plugs and some dried up poop in him. Poor thing bled when it was all removed. When I left he was in a hydrating bin. I hope he makes it and I can pick him up tomorrow.

Thanks Rick for letting me try. You are a hero in my eyes for rescuing him from the road.

ps - if he does make it I think he will be a nice looking fella. He is pretty long and still had a grasp although he is missing toe nails. Not a good thing for a cham trying to find a good hiding space.

Soooooo glad that you are going to try to help this little guy. I will keep my fingers crossed and keep good thought that he will be fine. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with from up here. Jann

Thanks for your good wishes. We will see what happens at the vet before I get excited about a new family member.

Good to hear he's getting medical attention. Sperm plugs, huh? Did the vet say anything regarding his chances of making it?

It's ify. I guess it depends on if he's going to hydrate well and start eating on his own. If he poops we will get a fecal. Vet doesn't want to medicate him with anything yet until he can regain a little strength. I think it is great that he still has a grip.

I went with a gut feeling I was bringing him to the right person. Anyone else who wanted him, sorry to pass you up, but the cham is in a bad condition and needs the very best attention he can get.

You can like it even better if the guy makes it. I haven't named him yet because I haven't bonded with the poor little guy yet.

Sad news all - the chameleon passed at 4:30 this afternoon. Poor guy. At least we tried. Now to pay the vet bill. ~sigh~

:(:(:(Sorry to hear that... Poor little guy. The effort you put in to help him was very admirable. Good Karma is headed your way.

good job you guys. the fact that he improved at all isawesome. i mean we know that once a cham starts going down, just the stress caused by trying to help is too much. cheers

should almost try to start like an " emergency fund" were dedicated members are allowed to pull funds to pay for "emergency rescue situations" but then there would be alot of trust with a few members and a treasurer and what not.

for things like...

vet bills.
shipping/gas.
emergency supplies/. medicines.

If you own Chams, You should probably have your own "emergency fund" ready. Everyone would love to "rescue" a cham, but rarely do people consider everything that goes into it. If a person can't afford to handle what is listed above on their own, they probably shouldn't take on the task.

I decided that Rescues became to much for me... So now when I see one that needs rescuing... I help by passing the word forward to someone who may have more time and resources to help than myself.

WEll, what im saying is, in general, to ease the burden on those like boca.. you know if anything it would help more rescues.

im not saying JO shmoe should take up the task. but to help assist those who can ...

Sang, I think that's a great idea. I personally just can not take on another cham because of the emotional attachment but would not mind helping those that can.
