Did you want to use this as a heat lamp? I do not have any technical data... but it does filter the light... wonder how much.

Yeah for a heat lamp, i was thinking that since it is a clear bulb if a cham looked at it long enough the bright filament could be damaging on the eyes? Other than that the temp would work and the light given off is really clear.

They are just supposed to look more like natural light than the typical household bulb which is called (soft white).

I like them to some extent, probably better than soft white bulbs. I have a few, and each type (regualar of flood) seems to produce a little diff color.

The reveal bulbs look better, are safe, etc... They're better bulbs in every respect except one. They do not last long at all. You'll replace them much much more frequently than a long-life bulb, which is much cheaper anyway. I hate havign them burrn out on me so quickly. seems they only last a month or two - I've had some regular bulbs last over a year.

Does anyone use the twisty long life household light bulb for basking? We are switching over our bulbs and wonder if these are ok. I don't need a lot of heat here in Florida.

ANY regular household old style tungesten incandescent will work for heat - the colour choice of clear, white, soft, reveal only matters to personal preference

The twisty ones (CFL) dont provide heat (that's why they are more efficient)

thanks everyone, i got a few last night and tested the temps in a spare cage, glad i can i can use them
Kevin- ive noticed that too i had a 100 watt for my bedroom and the light was alot less "clear" than the 60 watt

The CFL's are fine (twisted bulbs) for anything (CFL UVB bulbs are bad, though). But they are effecient in that they produce light without excess heat. A bright 100W equivilant uses only 23 W of energy - so you're getting the heat output of roughly a 23W bulb - useless for basking under most circumstances.
