RO feed line directly into Mist King System?

Does anyone have experience or comments on connecting an RO water line directly into a MistKing pump?

Are there issues with pressure/flow to meet the pumping speed? I would doubt it because a typical system only has gravity pressure into the pump. I don't think the extra RO pressure would be an issue, but I haven't tried it.

Would the colder water be an issue? If water sits in a reservoir it has time to warm up to room temp. If it comes directly from the RO system it will likely be colder (~52 to 58 degrees F) coming out of the cold water line into the RO system.

Are there other issues or reasons to consider not connecting the MistKing pump directly to an RO feed line?

Thanks!

I am getting ready to do this on my mistking setup as well. With reef tanks we do this to keep our auto top-offs full. However, we just set them up to run off of a float switch in a resevoir. I dont think the RO membrane would be able to keep up with the demands of the mist king when it actually runs, that's why a reservoir would probably be a necessity. I also have all my drainage trays plumbed and going to the waste water line. I like automation on my setups, be it reef aquariums or chameleon cages. Good luck to you!

Great point. I do have a 10 gallon bladder pressure tank that holds some of the RO, so maybe that will do the trick.

I have had reef tanks in the past and currently run a number of freshwater tanks that are all auto drip/auto drain..I would do it any other way....always healthy fish and very limited maintenance.

I plumbed the drains to my Cham enclosures as well. I have Parson’s and they go through a huge amount of water every day. Thanks for the insight.

Cool, man! I love fish tanks. Where do you live? If your in MN, I'd be willing to drive quite a ways to check out cham and fish set ups. Not enough fellow hobbyists around here.

Dude, I just checked your profile. I'm up in Cloquet. Only a couple hours from you. We should get together somtime and talk fish and reptiles. PM me if your interested.

For sure. Have you attended any of the MN Herp Society meetings? I haven't, but I would like to someday. I'm located in Stillwater, just outside the Twin Cities.

I'm going to try the RO to MistKing this weekend. I will update on the results.

No, I have not attended any yet, but I want to. Do you ever attend any frag swaps or anything like that or are you completely out of reefing now? I have been wanting to try my hand at planted aquaria again. I did it way back in the day and really enjoyed it. Now I could actually afford some of the gear to do it right. Do you keep any reptiles besides chams?
