RO pump useable for misting system?

Yeah, as the title says really, is it possible to use an RO booster pump to pump water around a misting system? This is the one I'm looking at:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/125-PSI-RO-BO...QQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item2eaa721e2b
I have no idea what the difference is between this and a misting pump but it's a diaphragm pump so is it not the same? I would buy mistking, but the UK import charges soon mount up! :( I'm sure there must be a reason why I can't use this, but please someone tell me why! :D

Cheers guys!

Howdy,

My expectation is that it should work just fine. Some pumps have a built-in adjustable pressure regulator which is very handy if you want to reduce the pressure to around 40-45psi when using the larger volume nozzles that create more of a misty-rainy-drippy output (like the cream colored nozzles that are color coded for pattern and volume). If you don't have a built-in adjustable psi regulator and still want to lower the pressure, you can always buy and external psi regulator like this one: http://media.wattswater.com/ES-P60.pdf. A handy side-effect of this type of regulator is that it completely smoothes out any pump pulsing effects on the water output that are created by some pumps .

...misty-rainy-drippy output....

Don't know what you mean by that! I just want the standard mist you normally get from something like a mistking (I'll be using a UK comparable nozzle as that is one thing we do have!).

But, the crux of it is, you actually think this might work? It would save me a small fortune if it would!

Just an FYI, there is going to be a European distributor for MistKing products. I think they will be ready soon (within a couple of weeks) to ship things.

check them out http://www.VivariumLand.com

Really? Thats great! Do you know how much they're going to be charging? It currently says 0! Something tells me that's not the price!

I know it may be bad for business, but do you think this idea might work?

Howdy Jim,
If you can wait for the MistKing pump, that would be great. If you can't wait then I think the one that you saw online should work. My "misty-rainy-drippy" output comment was about me liking my misting nozzles to make a combination of mist along with much larger droplets that tend to congregate into something closer to small rain drops as they make their way to the chameleon :).

I would hold out for the Mist King... BUT that will work. I think you will get more bang for your buck if you hold out for the Mist King.

RO booster pumps can work if they are the correct type. Since misting is a pretty low volume operation the slower RO system (meant for 20-50 gallons per day RO membranes) booster pumps work just fine.

And the regulator Dave posted is good as well. I have no pulsing from my Mist King pump because I regulate the pressure on my system.

Now I get what you mean Dave!

I would definitely prefer a mistking but it looks like the stock they're going to have in Poland will be limited for the mean time (just the pumps and value nozzles) which makes sense as you need to test the water first before you buy everything in. If I were to import from America there is something like 2.5% duty and then 17.5% VAT on the total price including delivery which really ***** me off as I don't see the justification of being charged VAT on shipping! Plus, if royal mail touch the package, there's an instant fee!

I just need patience, but sadly that is one thing I lack!

I've found some pretty good RO pumps with built in regulators, for around £80 (roughy $120 in your language) so its an option. Will have to see how much viv land are going to sell the mistkings for.

Would I need to do much to the RO pump to get it to work? Would it matter that the water being supplied to it wouldn't be at pressure in the first place?

You won't need to do anything special with the pump. Connect a tube to the nozzles and a tube into the bucket of water. They don't need pressure from the feed side to work. Some might not have the suction to pull from a bucket that is a few feet below the pump..... so make sure your setup can have the pump near the bucket.

That's ok then. The pump will pretty much be next to the reservoir so thats not an issue. I might need to use some "sticks like s**t" as there could be a slight difference in tubing size to seal it all up and make sure there are no leaks!

Now, it's just a waiting game to see how long I can hold out for to see about getting a mistking! Is there a real difference between value and premium nozzles?

um... to be honest.. for me, i'd go value. They both get the job done. Once looks 'better' than the other but to me, it doesn't matter.

Well, I don't know how VivariumLand will set the prices yet. There's a bit of a learning curve and unknown and hidden costs, duty, vat, brokerage, etc. They're waiting to figure it all out. Once they do, they will set the prices.... I'm told they will be very fair and competitive.

Ok cool. That's not a problem then!

Yeah, I thought that was what they said, but the language barrier obviously made things trickier!

What things have you sent to them? Is there stuff you haven't sent? Have you sent all the joints (L's, T's) and stuff?

They speak English very well...I think they also speak German if I'm not mistaken. They will have only what's available on their site.

So they don't have any corners or T's until they next order then? This is the question that I think got lost in translation or was maybe just overlooked!

The website does look very similar to your website it must be said! Any influence on your behalf?

lol I was kinda thinking the same thing about the artwork... hehehe

Dragging this up again, but what sort of pressure and flow rate would I need to run misting nozzles? I have some UK ones and I presume they're all the same, so what do you think I'd need!?

I found these: http://www.johnhewitt.com/pumps.htm but they're saying 4lpm which seems like a lot! I presume that is open flow, but is that the sort of thing I'm after if the mistking idea falls through?

I don't rememeber if they have Ts and Ls, I know they will ahve plug-in T and plug in L.

Yes, I've helped them a bit with the site and the logo :)
