RO system?

Hello everyone!

I am currently shopping for an RO system - nothing super expensive or fancy - just something that will get the job done. I currently purchase distilled water for my misting system and it's becoming too much, with the carrying jugs of water around and the waste of the plastic, even with recycling these jugs etc.

I was curious as to if anyone had some insight on a good RO system to purchase and some insider tips one what you guys may have used or are using currently.

Much appreciated!

I used to have one years ago for my reef aquarium. They are fairly easy to set up but you need to monitor the filters and test the water atleast every week or two. Try looking on a reef keeper forum. Youll probably get more useful info there since RO systems are almost required for reef aquariums.

I recently researched RO Systems and ended up with this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00204CQF6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's pretty compact, setting it up was pretty simple, and I'm generally happy with it. However, make sure you check ALL of the fittings to ensure they're all seated properly! I ended up getting sprayed more than once before I figured that little chestnut out. :ROFLMAO: I've had it for about a month now and I've had no problems (apart from forgetting the water was running through it...). It takes between 25 and 35 minutes to fill a gallon container.

The cartridges and replacement parts aren't too expensive and given that I only want ~1-2 gallons a day for my MistKing and humidifier, I suspect that each cartridge will last a long while.

My dad and I have reef tanks and I have chameleons. We used to have a RO/DI unit next to the kitchen sink, but the kitchen got renovated and a bigger sink went in at the expense of the RO/DI unit. Now, going through a minimum of 10 gallons of distilled water a week, needless to say, we’re back in the market for one. You can get a 7 stage one for like $150, but we just don’t know which one to choose.

I would get pretty much any 4 stage ro unit you can afford (sediment block, 2 carbon blocks, membrane). Basically all the filter elements between brands are interchangeable. The ro units for drinking water normally have a small reservoir and maybe a booster pump and faucet that come with them. A more basic one would be just the filter part and you would have to fill a bucket. A float switch or a timer to remind you the water is going is a good idea. I can't tell you how many times I've over flowed mine btwn my reef tank, dart frogs, and chameleons I go through a lot of ro water

Or

Both are reverse osmosis only. No deionization stage. It can be added later on if you ever wanted to but if you're using it for chameleons only your more than ok with just ro. Also the more stages the more cartridges you will have to buy when it comes time to replace so again if you are using it for chameleons only, that 3 stage I posted is plenty good and will be about 20$ to change the filters. Membrane would be more but they need replacing less often.

I just bought that one too based on the price of the unit, cartridges, and the reviews. Can't wait to get it going!
