Roach substrate

Ok guys since i have to clean out my roach enclosures thanks to the mites what is the best substrate to use? I've been using cedar mulch which they seem to really like and have been mating and making lots of babies, the downfall, of course, is cleaning the cage. Took me 5-6 hours trying to find all the babies. Left outside what i thought was the mulch, roach free, and checked it this morning, and found like another 10 really small buggers that had climbed under the cardboard. Of course i did that on purpose, but what about using cornmeal or something. I use that for the superworms and it works out really well. That way when i want to clean it out i just use a sifter and i find all the hiders. What do you think? What do you use?

Clean with bleach and water rinse very well. I use news paper and when it gets ugly I just lift and throw the soiled paper out.

Newspaper sounds like a good idea. I use...Nothing. Makes it easier to know how many nymphs you really have. Maybe once a month my dubia tank gets poured into a tub, I wipe and streilize it, and then they go back in. I have learned that in most cases, Substrate, if not necessary just causes more of a pain than anything.

Edit: Egg crates and Roaches, with small dishes for the food...That is all I use.
