Roaches are bad for you

Did you hear about the Deerfield accident? A reptileshop organized a roach and worm eating competition for humans. The winner died right after the contest. I feel bad for the casualty. But what does that teach us? 1. Roaches and worms for humans shall be consumed only cooked. 2. Humans should stay away from stupid experiments. 3. Petshops are evil.

As seen on any Episode of Fear Factor,,,Roaches or their like MUST be chewed very well before ingestion by humans!!!!!!:D

none of the other contestants got sick. im pretty sure it may have been an allergy of some sort...people eat bugs worldwide, cooked AND uncooked, and they are fine.

In other news, man does shortly after a shellfish eating contest.
"He was perfectly find before the contest, and all the other participants showed no signs of illness".

I frequent that store. It is one of the nicest, cleanest reptile stores I have ever been to. One of our members works there.

I agree with AManda. He probably was allergic to it.
Roaches are terrible tasting. Several years ago, the parents at my son's school were putting on a "Fear Factor" type of skit for the kids to enjoy. No one wanted to eat anything, so I volunteered to eat a hissing cockaroach. It tasted simply terrible. Never want to do that again.
I did take some benadryl beforehand just in case....

I agree with you Carol. This is my feeder store and I am in there every week. The people are knowledgeable, caring and keep cages and facility clean. I support them highly and I await the autopsy results. I'm sure it will be posted all over the news, especially down here in S. Fla.

I know they signed waivers beforehand but I def see a lawsuit in Ben Siegels future. Sucks, someone lost their life doing something so gross just to win a free snake. Feel sorry for the guys family and also for Siegel, Im sure they just wanted a little publicity and its gonna end up costing the stores owners.
Just having to respond to a lawsuit can cost 1000's of bucks.

I read about it yesterday on Google news and it was one of the top news story's. Then I read more about it and found out it was down in south FL and the constant that died was from west palm beach. I'm originally from the west palm beach area and I'm moving back to Lake worth next month. I called my mom and she said it was on channel 5 news down there. Carol that must be the place where you said we could make a silkworm run to.

bad roaches

Hey I hope some of you that use that store will let us know the autopsy results. Somehow I think those of us on the west coast may not be as lucky as you to get the follow up info.

LOL I come back on the forum after a break and this is the first thread I read :p :D lol scary! Don't think I will be taste testing my dubia anytime soon :p
