Rubbermaid/Sterilite Tubs questions

I'm trying to cut an area out of the lids of my Sterilite tubs (crickets) so I can screen it. I'm having a heck of a time tho using this little handheld saw. What do you guys use to do this? Some sort of electrical saw?

Thanks.

Also, is it safe to duct tape a Zoo-Med heating pad on these plastic tubs? I always thought so, but a guy at work said it's a no no.

I used a dremel on my tubs that were on the thicker side and for the smaller thinner ones I used a box cutter...not sure about the reptile heat mat..but I use heat tape for my dubia colony and use duct tape to attach it to bins so I wouldn't see why not but I would keep an eye on it for first24-48 hours to be sure

I just used a razor knife to cut out some top sections of my lids. I think the concern for the heat mat may be that the duct tape might cause it to overheat.

I use wire cutter gold scissors because I don't like messing with box knives XD I am such a sissy XD

I use a dremmel or those wire cutting scissors. I put my bins on diy heat mats made of flex watt on dimmer switches that are taped on to thin wood panels with aluminum tape. Those are placed on my shelves and the bins on top,

tape

If you must use tape with heating elements, use the silver duct work tape. the kinda aluminum looking tape. it is inexpensive and will not catch fire. not to mention it doesn't lose its grip after time.
