Saw something incredible tonight

Hubby and I were walking the dog tonight. We always take a long thin stick and a flashlight and watch for spiderwebs because I got bit by a spider on my forehead (ouch) so we watch for them. While we were checking the trees and bushes along the sidewalk we saw something green and and familiar. Lo and behold there was a CHAMELEON sleeping about 20 feet up in a tree! WOW! It sure looked like a veiled's belly. I would guess about 9 months or so. With all the available food there is available now there would be absolutely no chance of it coming down, especially with all the trees and high bushes. My guess would be it was a male, don't know why cause I couldn't see its casque, but the shape of its head just said male to me. Anyway, I can't believe I actually saw a cham. It isn't one of mine, I have them all LOL. But, if it ever comes visiting, you bet it would be welcome.

PS, living in Florida you see all kinds of things at night if you take a flashlight with you and go for walks.

Nice. Not much chance of Chams surviving in the wild over here............though we do have Panthers - have you ever heard of 'the beast of Bodmin Moor'? I went looking for the Loch Ness Monster once too :)

Someone is probably looking for him! i can already picture the "lost chameleon" posters stapled to telephone poles. lol

deja vu or something like it...

I had a dream about this last night!! I dreamed i was living in Florida. i was walking at night with my dog. looking up at all the spanish moss and sure enough high above me was a little lime green chameleon! That is all i remember of it. so interesting you just had that experience:)

that is awesome!

btw how is your new guy doing? Homer or Homie right?

Homer is doing great! He gets a night out with the boys every other day or so and really loves it. He is a sweetheart and we are becoming good friends. He is indeed becoming my "Homie"

That's pretty funny!

Naomi, I'd love to go and catch him :D

My cousins live in Boca too and my 6 year old cousin said that she saw a chameleon there. I didn't believe her..looks like she was correct!

It is in a neighbor's tree about 1/2 a block from my house. With all the spiders we've seen tonight I'm not about to do any tree climbing.

Hmmm. Maybe Ill have to come by and snatch him. I'd be amazed if it was actually a chameleon. I know that cuban anoles can look pretty similar especially at an angle.

I'm trying to learn about new world chameleons. The anoles you mentioned are part of that group and I could have seen that. It was 20 ft. straight up. I am trying to find a pic.

Anolis equestris, are very chameleon like, and have a lot of the same habits. "New World Chameleons" don't really describe the relations of anoles to chameleons as they are not closely related at all, they just earned that named because they are known for changing color as well.

Bitchin'.... thanks for locating my guy Rambo... he's a heck of a walker to get that far away! ;)

Yea, it was more then likely a Knight Anole (a.equestris). Most times I've been out hunting for chams at night here in FL, I see them and mistake one or many as a cham at first sight.
