Scared chameleon?

hi guys ive had my male veild
For around 5 months and noticed recently he's like scared of me. Making himself thin and hiding behind and branch.

Why is this?

Mainly because he's a chameleon

Seriously though, that is totally normal.

Maybe you could use some more foliage for him? Maybe you are getting in his face a bit too much?

Apart from that I think that around that age they are more like that, when he is fully adult he will be more confident

Give us a picture of his enclosure. But as JaguarShark said this is normal. Just ignore him and do your own thing in his sight. He will get used to you being around him and then once he isn't worried about you you can begin hand feeding him. Olimpia has a blog about chameleons and she has a full article on this topic. Just remember not all chameleons will be friendly and may want to be left alone.
