Second day with new chameleon

Wasn't sure on uvb and asked fella there. Recommended the reptisun 10. Said reptigro 8 and 10 hurt reptile eyes. What uvb bulb would you recommend. For a actively growing chameleon. Schedule seems easy enough could I space herpivite and calcium with d3 out. Or start first beginning of month and then mid month for the second feeding.
I will check out the temps and would vary different times of the year. I will check out on here gut loading and best way to go about it. Thanks great info.

Everything sounds good except the dusting schedule and the UVB bulb. The dusting schedule for a veiled is Calcium w/o d3 every feeding except when you use the other two dusts which is, Calcium w/d3 twice a month and a multivitamin twice a month.

I would definitely figure out your temps, if the temps are too high for a female it can cause more egg production and sometimes 75 watts are too strong. I would mist three times a day, for about a minute to a minute and a half each time. She sounds a little dehydrated from the description of her urates.

The UVB bulb is too powerful. Reptisun 10's are for desert dwelling reptiles. They can hurt the eyes of chameleons.

She probably won't be too interested in greens and fruit until she's a little bit older but if you want to try and get her started now people often it in the feeder dish and let them snag it with the insects so they get recognize it as food.

You need to gutload your feeders with better things, they will get enough moisture from the veggies so there is no need for the water crystals but they need a better dry gutload than just oatmeal. So I would either start making your own following some of the recipes on here... or buy something like cricket crack or repashy bug burger.

I got my veiled at petco because I didn't know anything. I did research before about the difference between the male and females so I was sure to get a male. This forum is where I have learned the most about him. I found a mist system on Amazon for 50.00 and just put a clear shower curtain around 2 sides of his cage to help with humidity.

50 bucks isn't that bad at all. Could you provide a link or name of it. Am going call petco tomorrow and see what there return policy is. Check out the current two they have. Or just wait till I come across a male.
I seen a male not that long ago at a different petco. About a hour away but like I said keep a look out for one. Then I'll always have a cage ready to go

Reptisun 5.0 is the best for tropical species such as Chameleons and usually a linear bulb works best. I use an 18 inch. For dusting with Vitamins and Calicium w/d3 I alternate once a week. Usually I do it on friday doing either calcium w/d3 or the multivitamin, but which ever day works best for you will work.

Reptisun 5 will work on a fine mesh cage by zoomed right? Once a week swap sounds good. 2 and 2 and four weeks in a month. Seems best with thinking.

Hi I returned the female a bit ago. That petco had three females and the fourth one wasn't sure. She wouldn't let me check them.
But I did find a male at a different pet store few miles out. Will post a photo of him. I am 90% sure and would appreciate a experts opinion. If am right that it is a male. Little smaller then the female I had over the weekend. Can't offer crickets today need the small ones to gut load. Misting every hour cause the cage is drying out really fast. Will post a pic of the changes I made when I got home.

His cage with a lot of hiding foliage. Just need the reptisun 5 and a Exo terra vine. The male cost 40 dollars more 100 was his price. I'll get these items over the weekend.

Female veileds are awesome! The only kind of veiled I have is a female and the only difference between them is the male gets a little bigger and a little less color. When your female matures and goes receptive she will show lots of color like blue and yellow. For petco that is actually a healthy looking chameleon. Maybe they just haven't had it long enough to start killing it

That's a shame, he returned it

Wasnt a shame I heard things about female chameleons. That sorta freaked me out. Never understood the infertized eggs they develope. Just was my mission to avoid female veiled chameleon. The photos above of the male if it is a male. Doesn't look really healthy to me. Mainly the rear back knees. With the photos I compared of the one I returned and one I have now.

Reptisun 10.0 could be fine as long as there's an area they can choose to get out of it if desired. Always think gradients with not only temperature, but light and humidity as well. Screen does filter out some UVB and the 10.0 does counter that effect. Hatchlings are a different story but your new male looks to be in the three month range or so. As with all aspects of keeping chameleons, observation and learning how to read your individual is essential. If he does start to spend a lot of time in the shade or closing his eyes while basking, then I'd start troubleshooting by switching to a 5.0 to see if it made a difference. Live plants will help with humidity and if you set up a proper environment for the chameleon, the plants should do well also. At minimum get a double fluorescent fixture and use your reptisun along side a 6500k daylight bulb(don't forget the seperate basking lamp with standard bulb of correct wattage of course). Should suffice for most house plants. Just be sure to check the safe plants list. Good luck with him.

Plenty of fake plants he hides in. Got up today seen him on top basking. Misted him and took off. Second misting couldn't find him. Put ten crickets in there see if he eats today. Am going to get the reptisun 5. Stopped at pet store today because the crickets died. Didn't have the reptisun 5. Just the reptigro 5.0 and tropical series by zilla. Don't know if there any good for chameleons.
From the pics it is 100% male right.
I only have a 75 watt basking bulb on him and the 18" reptisun 10. Is that ok for him. I haven't added live plants yet. Golden pothos I was thinking but have find them at lowes again. Died while ago.

Try making a new thread under chameleon identification to find out its gender. Only experts are allowed to answer there. It would probably be more helpful.:)

Had him since Monday going on five days now. He's not really eating much still. Before lights go out am taking almost same amount of crickets back out. I called the pet store said to try mealworms but don't have them. He only has a seven day warranty from that pet store. The guy that helped me pick him out said he wasn't eating much then also.
Said they had a vet there and while he's still under the seven days. I could take him there at no charge. May call tomorrow and see. Any advice be appreciated

I have a 3-4 month Veiled. I've been giving him ton fo vitamin/mineral on all his crickets each time-- I believe in giving them good nutrition while they grow until their adults.

I give him Cricket as his main meal-- sometimes I throw in outside bug such as mantis or something big, I dust them also. I try to give him too many outside creatures just in-case they have parasites in them.

What else can I give him? Its a Veiled I figure they are the Chameleon species that likes eating veggies.

Here is what I've seen them eat:
* Mangos
* Collard Greens

What should I give him? Do I boil spinach or collard greens? what fruits can they eat? I know
I've seen places it mentions not to give them certain veggies such as broccoli?

What's the percent of insect % vs. veggies? should I give him to diversity his nutritious diet? I also have a baby Panther-- should I introduce vegetable diet to him as well?

Think your post should be started in a thread. Veggies for champ for say.
