seeking advice of a true chameleon expert

here is the deal i live in NJ and am looking for a true chameleon expert to sit down with face to face. I mean expert not some one who reads a few threads and a couple of books and has owned a beginner chameleon. I am looking some one with schooling and or special training in this field. A true exotic vet who owns and breeds chams would be ideal i am willing to pay for your time.

I have 7 chameleons have had chams since i was 15 i am 31 now i have a vast knowledge of them however i am now breeding and i take this very serious as i do the health of all my animals and would like true professional advice.

This forum is very helpful but the conflicting posts become confusing and misleading so i would like to nail this in one sitting.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

hi welcome to the forums good for posting your thread here but you should also make a double and post it in the wanted adds

You can get better information here then any vet could give you about breeding. There are many breeders here who have had great success with chameleon offspring. Vets arn't breeders they are vets which cover a wide variety of animals and ther health problems. What your looking for is a vet who just does reptiles and I'm not sure they exist our are few and in between. Conflicting breeding information is common breeders have there own method of doing things that work for them through trial and error experience.

Welcome to CF!

Its great to have you here!

If you have kept that long, Im sure there is much you have to offer here.

Im also sure that any questions you have about breeding, would be best answered here.

So I hope you stick around!

I have kept all 4 chams, bred all but jacksons. If I can offer non-expert advice. pm me if I can help

I live in NY and have found an incredible vet in Mount Vernon, he specialises in reptiles and breeds himself, and is incredibly knowledgeable and has published articles on herp care too. Depending on where you are in NJ I'd definitely recommend him. I'm new to chameleons but have been keeping reptiles for a few years and he has a true passion for reptiles which I have rarely seen in another person, let alone a vet! He knows a lot about chameleons but did a lot of research on my Senegal before my appointment, which I was really really impressed by.

This is his website: http://www.beverlieanimalhospital.com/

I would be willing to sit down with you if you want to set something up.
You will never be able to "nail it" in one sitting. The most you would be able to achieve is have your most important questions answered.

You won't get better than Chuck G. on this forum, so I would jump on it. many years experience with a good number of different chams. I would consider myself lucky to have Chuck offer.

...... am looking for a true chameleon expert to sit down with face to face......

Look no further my good sir, i am here to save you from your woes.

i dont think youll be finding anyone here that fits those specific criteria. in all honesty even if you can find someone with a plethora of knowledge there is always someone that knows more about something than someone else. for instance some of us know more about lighting than others, others know more about nutrition, or entomology, or botany, or biology ect. all of which can effect your husbandry

your best bet to get a well rounded understanding of what you need or want to know is start a thread.

This forum is very helpful but the conflicting posts become confusing and misleading so i would like to nail this in one sitting.

trust me that is going to be a long conversation, i recently had a guy over my house i was selling a cage to that was looking for a CB male jacksons that had never kept before, our conversation lasted almost 2 hours and i feel like i didnt even cover much in sufficient detail. i had to follow up with multiple emails to feel comfortable with the amount of information/experience i provided.

there is more than one way to skin a cat there are so many different husbandry practices that work is the reason it can be confusing. of course there is right and wrong but its not exactly black and white, its rainbows.

with your experience im sure youve run into situations where you have to amend your husbandry practices because of a particular animals disposition. its going to be the same deal with only getting one particular persons perspective (even if exceptionally knowledgeable) may not cover the whole spectrum.

and on top of that you cant really go back on a conversation for future reference, but you can go back and reread a thread.

I have 7 chameleons have had chams since i was 15 i am 31 now i have a vast knowledge of them however i am now breeding and i take this very serious as i do the health of all my animals and would like true professional advice.

i think 90% of the people here, at least the regulars, take this very seriously.

HOW have you not started breeding up until now? geez i got my first cham when i was 12 and started breeding only a couple of years later. its half the fun!

i think your best bet is starting a thread with an overview of your current husbandry practices and then follow that up with your questions or concerns on specifics.

nothing against private messaging chuck but i think it would be more helpful to make it a public conversation so that not only can others reference the information provided but maybe bring their own insight to the conversation.

ive seen others threads die when people are recommended they PM an individual that i may have wanted to gain some more perspective from or add my own. i just dont see how it helps the community to carry a private conversation that may be helpful to others
