Seychelles - Calumma tigris Locality

Hi all,

I'm going to the Seychelles later this week (Paslin) and am hoping I'll get to see some reptiles in situ. I've read that C. tigris is living on the island of Praslin so I plan to visit the national park there.

Have any forum members traveled to the Seychelles? Can anyone tell me where the best areas to find C. tigris are?

I hope I'll have some pictures to share when I get back!!

The best place to find them on Praslin based on the literature I have is Vallee de Mai National Park. It should be noted though that night searching for this species has been said to actually be more difficult than day searching, unlike other chameleons, probably due to where they roost at night.

Good luck!

Chris

No idea, but make sure to take lots of pictures on your adventure!

I was unable to find any tigris on Praslin, which was disappointing, however I did have an epic holiday.

Chris, I visited Valle de Mai but it seemed unfit for tigris to inhabit. The area was very arid. There was very little ground cover as the palm trees blocked out most of the sun. When I spoke to some local people about chameleons they said there are none on Praslin, and that populations only existed on Mahe and Silhouette. This probably isn't true but I'm convinced the tigris population is small on Praslin. I may have been looking in the wrong area. I did however drive through the national park on Mahe during our last day in the Seychelles and it seemed like the perfect habitat for tigris. The forest was extremely lush and humid. I wish I had a chance to look in that area.

I was able to photograph some Phelsuma astriata and sundbergi which I will attach below.
