She was looking for something

It appeared as if my chameleon was looking for something. I was watching her today, and I noticed my chameleon was on the bottom of the cage, just strolling around. She was looking at/under a lot of stuff, and dark stripes all of a sudden started to fade in. I thought it was really cool. Then, I think she saw me and went back up into her tree, and her stripes faded back out. Just wanted to share with you guys, also wondering if it means/meant anything.

Sounds to me like shes looking for a place to lay her eggs. What kind of chameleon is she? really regardless of what she is you need to get a bucket of play sand in the bottom of her cage thats just moist enough that you can tunnel in it, and the tunnel wont collapse. Some pictures would be good. Also if shes looking to lay eggs, you need to tape brown paper bags or put some barrier around her cage because if she sees you while laying/sees you period, she'll abandon where she wants to lay and she could die egg bound.

Yes, she may have been looking for a place to lay eggs. We have some chameleons that look very lumpy when about to lay, and others that still look quite streamlined. One of our streamlined ladies does increase/decrease the deepness of her stripes when she is ready to lay.

What type of cham do you have, how long have you owned her, and do you know if she was ever with a male?

She's a veiled, I've had her for about a month, and I do not know if she has ever been with a male. She's about 1.5 inches not including the tail, so is she even old enough? I'm going to run out tomorrow anyway and get some sand and a bucket, just in case.

It sounds as though she is only a couple months old, so she is probably not looking for a place to lay. She may, however, just be checking out her surroundings, or looking for some food. How much are you feeding her a day?

That's what I thought, too. I wasn't able to feed her when I normally feed her today because I ran out of crickets, so she was fed a bit late. I feed her around 7-10 a day.

I agree. Too young to be laying eggs, although understand that veiled chams will lay eggs even without being with a male. But, yes, she was probably exploring or looking for food.
