our veiled, Karma, is about 7 months old. shes got all the right lighting and has a great pvc and mesh cage. i handle her usually once a day and shes friendly. but i want to know how friendly can they get? and sometimes when i come up to the cage shes terrified of me. wont even eat the crickets i push thru the cage (she LOVES crickets) help??

all veileds are different. your going to get alot of people saying not to handle your cham. each one is different though, my cham isnt terrified of me after i stopped trying to handle him, but instead try to hand feed. they will leatn to like you r jand because they will learn taht ou have food when you come inside the cage and your cham will be nice to you.

If your cham appears to be comfortable with you sometimes, but terrified at other times, it may be the colors or patterns you are wearing. This is very common. When I feed our chams, or need to handle them for some reason, I keep several bland green shirts at hand that I throw on over my clothes to cover colors or patterns I know the chams won't like. It makes a very big difference.

That is so true....I wear grey or bland colors around George if I have to clean his cage or anything and he is fine. If I wear red or bright blue then he is the stroppiest, nastiest thing on earth and I have to count my fingers to see if they are still all there :)

Once a day is entirely too much handeling. Im reluctant to even handle mine once a WEEK, but have to for cage cleaning. Your little girls immune system is going to weaken considerabally from all the handeling, and she will be more succeptable to illness.

These animals are not hamsters or dogs - she will remain scared and stressed for the remainder of her life anytime you try to handle her.

I used to have a very large male veiled several years ago that would actually start trying to get out of the cage if he saw me or my wife. When we would open the cage he would want to climb up our arm and sit on our shoulder. Was it bad to let him do that? We got him as an adult and he did it from day one. I understand this was very unusual behaviour for a cham.
